If you're gonna make the situation in Xinjiang more realistic next version, you should also make Tannu Tuva start as a Soviet puppet. Just a minor thing I noticed. :p

Thank you all for your support.

capital,
I'll package your loadscreen as one of two choices in the next version. Also I made a widescreen version of it. And thank you for your support. It's good to hear from someone with a good Russian perspective. I look forward to your ideas. As for the name, my preferred name is "Cold War Extension" but unfortunately once you start a thread you're stuck with a name. Also, can you answer a question--was there any Soviet proposal to make Germany united but neutral?

Mrdie,
Xinjiang accuracy has many game effects, and reflecting it will probably require about 20-30 events. Tannu Tuva is usually gone by 44. Tannu Tuva being a puppet or not has little or no game effect so I'll probably leave that one alone. The reason I'm interested in Xinjiang is to have Chinese resource events work correctly. I hardly think a victorious Chiang Kai Shek would ignore Xinjiang. Also when the Communists historically took over China Xinjiang rapidly vanished. Thirdly Sheng Shicai was gone and they had other leaders. Fourthly, getting Mao Zemin (Mao Zedong's brother) in the game provides for added realism. On another note--look forward to your followup ideas regarding Yugoslavia and Albania.

Everyone,
Plan a second version of the Berlin Blockade for users that opt for early release. Because of its effects it requires some additional code. Once Xinjiang is rectified, there will be only one setup option which is to release all puppets early or follow historical path.
I'd like to get the Marshall Plan into the game but want good ideas first. There are several things that come to mind
1) Marshall was a "Europe First" person. I think there should be an option to sack him and put in MacArthur as Secretary of State with an Asian focus. Negative effects on Europe need to be considered, as well as positive effects for Nationalist China in the Civil War.
2) (Edit)-Marshall Plan choices will be 1) Full Plan 2)Only aid Britain 3) Only aid Britain, France Denmark and Low Countries. 4) Add Italy to #3. In any case there should be a small chance for Congress to not agree. In this case the effects on Europe need to be carefully considered. Also perhaps the Congress just decides to aid Britain. They actually got more Marshall Plan money than anyone else, and I think that part alone would be most likely to pass Congress, even one with mostly Republicans. I think perhaps a series of random events that might include
a) a small chance for communist takeover
b) a bigger chance for the country deciding on a neutralist path
c) an equally big chance for staying in the alliance with a big dissent hit
should fire if the Marshall Plan is turned down.
Ideas please.

Re: 36 Grand Campaign User Mod uses only the tech tree enabling you to use your own event package. User mods generally start from 36. There are some limits--the tech tree overrides anything the other mod does with the technology tree, nation-specific units or battle mechanics. My battle mechanics are vanilla.

QUESTION: Is there any game event making Marshall Secretary of State?

I do remember hearing players exploit the non-puppet status though and Tuva owning territories like Korea or whatever by chance and all that. It should be a puppet, especially since Mongolia, which at least had a semi-independent foreign policy under Choibalsan, is a puppet in the game. By the 40's every leader in Tannu Tuva pretty much learned in the USSR and were placed into their positions by the Kremlin, similar (but not quite as much) to Mongolia in the late 30's.

OK Mrdie,
I'll do that by added event so I don't have to edit and maintain 5 extra scenario files. Of course users who really want to exploit things will just delete the event anyway.

Xinjiang's going to be a headache...maybe you can set the resource events to fire regardless of whether it joins or not?

Also I think if McArthur is SecState there should be increased events like the 14th Air Force with the US giving the Chinese troops, planes, tanks, and blueprints if not outright IC as well. However, I have not tried your late game scenarios yet so I can't really comment on that as I prefer to play from 36 and trigger Fading Sun in 38 :)

Keioel,
Resource events will fire as long as China or East Turkestan has Urumqi and Xinjiang does not exist. East Turkestan will have a separate tag and flag, as it was a completely different state than Xinjiang under Sheng Shicai. What I AM going to do is not give the Soviets the entire province in 45.

BTW my resolution for the Empire of China rocketry team is to have an event wakening the Mansyu Hikoki Seizo team with the added rocketry specialization as soon as they research Rocket Test and Research Facility
They don't have a rocketry team yet but have one with a good match for chemistry and management so they can research that one without too much difficulty.

MacArthur as Secretary of State is a POST-WW2 idea in lieu of George Marshall, for a hypothetical USA more focused on Asia than Europe, so 14th AF would not apply. Probably there would be increased economic aid, so the industrial modifier that Nationalist China gets hit with is decreased. They have plenty of IC--they just don't use it well because of all the corruption. Actually I read somewhere that all the USA had to do to allow the Nationalists to win was to supply them with captured German ammunition for all their German-manufactured weapons.

Nomonhan,
Gotcha and that makes sense.

Perfect :) I had no problems researching the rocketry base but then it was like...ahh this is gonna be a bit difficult :) and the only reason I mentioned it is because NatChi although I also play Rep Spain so I'm used to making due without certain tech teams :)

I guess I should have been clearer in that I meant if General McArthur as Sec State would mean an increase in events from the US LIKE the 14th Airforce :) and yes the corruption was pretty bad at the time...interesting I hadn't heard that before but I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, can you answer a question--was there any Soviet proposal to make Germany united but neutral?

So called, "Austrian Model" for Germany was ( by what i read from analitics ) Stalin's dream and official position of Foreighn Office till 1955.

And despite the fact that such a perspective on the rights of alternative existed, I would not give her and the 1% opportunity. Knowing the approach to the issue of Eizenhower in particular, and the MFA of USA in general.

The fact that I believe in dignity for Mode , this alternative Khrushchev ultimatum (historical fact, he had to urgently send the Minister Mikoyan in the U.S. - a kind of Soviet "Mister Wolf" or Kissinger ) in 1954-55 (Khrushchev had been a bad diplomat) that could lead to Short WW War.Ee : Let Reds councils went to Paris - accepted Austrian model for Germany, or allow NATO went to Warshaw - and it does make a Poland Liberal and neutral buffer to Soviet.

I believe that there was such a plan for a united and neutral Germany floated by Beria in his 100 days in power. I suppose if he was the head honcho of the Soviet Union after Stalin's death you could pursue that path. He'd have to survive counter-coup efforts though and you'd have to speculate how serious he really was.

Capital and Jawa. Thanks for the information. One of the planned effects of the alternate history failure of the USA to do the Berlin airlift is a the neutralization of West Germany--hypothetically angry at the West. So with your information my plans are that if DFR goes neutral (perhaps against the wishes of the USA, i. e. demanded by the West Germans in an election) it triggers an event for the USSR to order its satellite DDR to accept unification with the West. Neutral DFR would likely only befriend Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. Another possibility is that Congress fails to pass the Marshall plan or alternately passes the plan but vindictively fails to include West Germany, also triggers Neutral DFR, and potential unification. The process could start with a request from the West Germans made to the Soviet Union. So West Germany would have to go neutral FIRST. I'm not sure what the chance of acceptance by the Soviet Union should be.
There would be a danger in all that--West Germany might renew its demands for the Polish areas to be returned which could cause a headache for Poland and the USSR. So probably West Germany would have to renounce its claims first.

Does this work with moddir? When I try to start the Cold War scenario I get the following errors:
error1ybl.jpg

After this one, the scenario keeps loading.
error2lfe.jpg

But here, the game crashes.

I'm using the last version of the mod, over Arma 1.2, "Cold War" scenario, USA.

Mmm,ideologicly: I am afraid that making Germany neutral - you bury the main nerve of the Cold War. And in terms of gameplay available in the situation of war effect Mode Kaizerreyh - Weak Germany strong Russia.

Technicly, What to do with complex of superpower of United States, "nuclear diplomacy", the doctrines of the Presidents(Trumen,Eizenhower) of the United States and the Marshall Plan, and that for me most importantly what to do with the position Eizenhauer "informal master" of Germany? Neutral Germany this geostrategic collapse to the free world. I have not yet talked about the fear of the U.S. Britain and Germany (Adenower) before communism ...

By the way, I added the missing technames in doomsdaytext.csv version 0.24 as I understand it - whether or not to post? Or you do this yourself ?

P.S.S all who are interested in the history of the Cold War - has found a new source of official site of Russia's foreign intelligence service. There is a map of world and then through an web transleiter

Right now the only effects of the Berlin Blockade are (if USA refuses support)
1) change of the industrial modifiers so East Germany gets all the benefits of Berlin's IC
2) right now West Germany goes neutral and leaves the alliance (subject to change)
there is no unification event (yet) but the discussion is whether there should be one.

Re: errors
1) the mod is designed to NOT NEED moddir, and if you use moddir, you may need to change what is included and what is not included in the moddir.
2) the dormant_teams error is from using the mod with Arma 1.2 and is resolved by commenting out the dormant_teams line in scenarios/1945/sov2.inc.

If you use moddir and get an error about the international.ai you might have to include this in the moddir. I personally recommend against using moddir BUT
I think moddir would be good to support an add-on such as a cold war realism package which might include
1) postwar flags of Italy, Romania and Hungary
2) more modern Egyptian, Syrian and Iraqi flags
3) updated names such as Beijing and Shenyang
4) making Los Angeles, Paris, Rome and Tokyo urban
5) postwar roundels for Italy, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
etc
I'd hesitate to add them to a WW2 game

capital,
Go ahead and post the missing names as you see them. My plans are to look at them this weekend but I always appreciate the opportunity that someone may save me a bit of work. The "neutral Germany" ideas I believe had no chance in the real world but were simply tossed out as alternate history--that of a Germany that believed itself mistreated and insulted by the West and therefore refused to buy into the Western alliance. Given the strong intelligence connections between the two I think it unlikely but some stupid politician might always act otherwise, as the immediate postwar attitude toward Germany was one of vindictiveness, and the German people continued to be made fun of by Western media for many years. However, at the present time I won't take the idea past the idea of a neutral Germany with preferred trading partners being Austria, Switzerland, and Sweden, and won't pursue the unification proposal--might do so if Beria becomes HOG after Stalin's death.

tully,
They are both transition technologies for going from the vanilla to the Cold War naval doctrines. They are actually correct as written and they were written for the following reasons:
Sealane Denial (accessed from the Indirect Approach tree) and Submarine Predominance (accessed from the Fleet In Being tree) both lead to modern Warsaw Pact doctrines featuring a mixed submarine / missile cruiser emphasis. The Soviet Union in early scenarios is on Fleet In Being while in later scenarios it is on Indirect Approach, so this is designed to allow the USSR to go to its modern doctrines from either.

Modern Carrier Warfare is designed to allow a hypothetically victorious Germany to make the transition to carriers (US doctrine) in the Cold war era.

Ah! That explains it perfectly. Thanks!

Cheers,
Tully
