Having generated some interest I would propose a team to construct this mod. There would be three stages to the development:

1) Determine the scope, objectives and overall format of the mod.

2) Research

3) Constructing the mod

For the research stage, I propose that we seek some level of realism, and obtain the following information about each nation:

1) Government type, ideology and heads of state
2) For each playable nation, also ministers and leaders during the period, and major opposition figures at various times (for use in counterfactual events)
3) For each playable nation and important non-major, OOB and tech levels at various points during the game period
4) For each playable and each region of the globe, major historical events

Each team member would be assigned a playable and related global region to research. Each member then will present a report with the research and a proposal for ministers, leaders, OOB chart, borders and events for inclusion in the game.

Once we decide on what to include in the game, we would begin constructing the actual mod, such as making the map, making and placing forces, developing political structures and economies, and coding events.

I propose the following playable nations:

USA
USSR
Communist China
Nationalist China
UK
France
Japan
Germany/West Germany

Please post which playables you would like to research. If we get someone for each playable then we can move forward with the project. I will then create a message board for the mod team.

Those of you who have already started a similar mod, I'm sure what you've done so far would be a big help. It just seems if we work together we could create one kick-butt campaign instead of two or three half-done ones.

Skandinavia and Soviet "Republics".

Well...i could take on the USSR, but(well, this is a country to complex for one person to handle, so i think someone else should also work on this, besides me) especially the situation in occupied territories, plus skandinavian countries(poltical order, leaders, armies,ministers, events and so on).

We'll assign you Scandinavia and to the USSR team. USSR is a big job. I can probably help with that if nobody else wants to. Part of it will be doing revolters for the baltic states, ukraine and a couple of others that could conceivably emerge in the correct conditions of the game.

Based on some answers Bolt gave to questions of mine, I believe that obstacle can be overcome and I would be more than willing to be the one to do it (except any artwork). We'd need someone to translate text into other languages for inclusion in the other language text.csv files, but I believe I can design the tech. But most of the tech needed is already in the game. Some of the techs I've researched in 1942 as the USA are early 1960s technology. Mainly I want to slow research down by increasing the cost somewhat, and increasing the time a lot.

I can handle the tech, Generalisimo, go ahead and join up. Who do you want to research?

And SirExeC, I guess I misunderstood your first post. I thought you were saying you could do USSR AND the Skandinavians. You meant someone else should do that part of it?

Well, yes, what i ment was I could easily coup information about skandinavia, baltic states, but i don't have that good information about USSR(It would be good if i had any help on that)...Ow, and when does the scenario start?Late 40-s or early 50?

OK, I got you now

As for start date, I would like to start it with the Yalta Conference in February 1945. I think one of the more interesting potential counterfactuals of the Cold War is "What if Eisenhower let his generals run as far as they could? How different would the Cold War have been?" If we start right after Yalta, we can model the Russians and Allies having a race. Yes, it would create more difficulties in coding, but I think we could handle the contingencies of the different potential outcomes.

Starting during WWII would bring up the interesting possibility of the Germans and one side or the other agreeing to peace, which would really throw a monkey wrench into reality.

i can help you with that, but the conditions that will triger that will have to be estudied carefully...
Also, for example with Israel, when it was created? 1948-50? :confused:

Yep, Israel was created in 1948.

Creating countries is not that hard through events. The most important thing is brainstorming possible conditions and what would have happened given different conditions. Creating the two Germanies is not that hard, as you would just change the name of GER to West Germany (Federal Deutsche Republic, IIRC), then create a country out of some German provinces. The real challenge is in deciding which provinces to go in which one, and what happens if the Allies overrun all of the German provinces? What happens if the Russians overrun more? What if the Allies and Russians come to blows? Part of the fun of doing this for me is engaging in this kind of speculation and creating event structures to try and handle the answers so that the players can create a believable counter-history through their actions.

Israel raises another interesting issue: What happens if Israel is not created? What if the Arabs win the 1948 war?

Fun stuff all.

Yes, but this would not work as any Western units stationed their would run out of supply and no new units could be sent. Unless of course the French, British and Americans have military access through Eastern Germany.

i will try to do some aircraft models

I dont really have the the inclination or broad enough interest to do detailed research on a particalur global region, but I have been teaching myself 3D modelling and trying to figure out the set of files needed to make new sprites work in HOI. Once I get that figured out I will try to make at the very least a progression of two levels of jets for the west and the eastern bloc (we probably need to leave the first level piston type aircraft as they were still very prevalent especially in developing countries in the late 40s and early 50s) and once I get going it shouldnt be too hard to make some more sets to give the mod some real variety.

For starters though im thinking L-2 will look like Mig-15 for eastern, maybe F-84 for western bloc, with something like the MiG-19 or 21 for the L-3, with the western bloc being maybe an F-105.

My own mod is much more of a "down and dirty" thing, with more attention to just the overall global situation rather than like lists of leaders names and such, but I will keep an eye on this thread and lend any help or information I may have.

Let's Get Started

I don't use icq, irc, aim or any of those. Email and www are pretty much it for me, but for this project a message base should be fine. I've created a free message board for HOI that we can use for discussions. I'd like for everybody who wants to work on it to head over there, sign in, and we can start assigning tasks.

I think I agree we should scale back somewhat on the amount of research required. I guess the main thing is to try and get a fairly accurate count of the number of divisions of different types that the different powers had.

Well...i have already thoughts about the conqured areas, i think that we should make puppets(though its rather wrong, because they were formally part of soviet union) of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukrainia, Belarussia, just to make game more interesting for the palyer. I'm right now working on events that should emulate the resistance from Forest-brothers(Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and the crisis of Puppet goverment,1949. year mass abductions and so on...
