After East vs West was cancelled I think this might be the only hope for a good Cold War strategy game
.....yeah it's a pretty supid idea
It was moved.I just noticed the forum is no longer there. WTF?
The Doomsday expansion for HOI2 was pretty playable, though lacking in content. I'd love to see something on the same theme (Allies v. Soviets in a hot war) in a DLC for HOI4.
Which still isn´t (and i think i said this atleast twice in the EvW thread) Cold War.
When MotE came out, I remember a number of us discussed alt. scenario expansions that functioned like total conversion mods. I think that'd be the best option for a cold war expansion.
Trying to allow for post-war gameplay in a game that's going to try really hard to simulate WW2 well is one hell of a challenge. However, that doesn't mean that the underlying mechanics can't be repurposed.
Depends what you're trying to do. Anything that can simulate WW2 can simulate an early Allies V. Soviets war easily. It can also simulate historical conflicts (China, Korea, Indochina) with only marginally more difficulty.
The wars are certainly doable, and the trade as well. It's the diplomatic side that would be interesting; although, I suppose that depends on how they handle the factions & alignments.
For HoI3, my experience is that the war(s) is basically inevitable, and that makes sense considering the conditions on the ground. That wouldn't be the case with a historically accurate Cold War game.
