50 % ? 100 % ? more ? less ?
yeah i know, hoi 4 was even relased , why to discuss dlc, right ? well since screenshots it looks that hoi4 will be most friedlier to be expanded to cold war era, eighter by dlc or by mod. some of you can remember game caled cold war, which was using hoi3 engine and it was stand alone game.
So i will love to have at least some partial cold war timeline in game, dost matter if it end in 50s 60s or later, geting up to 80s and end of soviet union will be very hard to make imo.
personaly i willing to pay for this DLC 100%, same amount as for original Hoi 4.

They may not even bother because mods will probably cover that ground quite extensively. I think PDS will focus on DLC based around mechanics like in EU4 Cossacks and Horselords for ck2. However that being said they have extended timelines in games in the past, so nothing is impossible.

Depends on if the DLC is well done or not. If it feels like just HOI4 WW2 but with different countries, I'd be pretty mad but if it felt like an actual Cold War then I'd definitely buy it.

However, since HOI4's mechanics focus primarily around WW2, I couldn't see a massive extension into the Cold War. I think a DLC focused more around the rebuilding and the negoitations for who gets what in post-war Europe and Asia would be more fitting.

Standard DLC price, maybe more if it looks good enough, I'd love a good, thematic, Cold War scenario, heck, even just a small part of it, say in the 80s or something where most of the Cold War gone hot scenarios hang out.

well which timeline extension you see most fitting ? and surely, it will depend on how it is made.
And how do you think that focusion on post war rebuild will work ? you have no in game represented civilian infrastructure (houses) which was one of major thing to rebuild and as bonus all damage to prov infa is repaired automaticaly with no need of resources.
So focus on politicks, coups..etc to bring states to your sphere, space race will be more interesing imo.

Factories can get destroyed. However, the rebuild of Europe I think should be mostly event related, with perhaps some national focuses dealing with the rebuild. Maybe even the countries that lost significant amount of units in the war will get a negative modifier, in which you have to give a certain amount of civilian goods to said modifier to remove it (simulating the spending of material goods to rebuild infrastructure, homes, etc.) Or as I said, it can be mostly event and national focus-related.

However, then an issue arises: when is WW2 considered over? Is it when one faction definitively crushes the other two (which will rarely happen)? Is it when one faction (in real life, obviously the Axis) is absolutely destroyed? Is it when one faction achieves certain goals (basically Victory Conditions from HOI3?)?

I would love to see a cold war dlc and I would pay just as much as the base game bc there are no decent ones out there, but I'm not to optimistic they will do one. I remember Johan saying how he doesn't like doing expanded time lines. It would be nice to see it go into the 50's at least and do a "hot war" between the U.S. and the soviet union or something like that

A World War 1 DLC would be better I think. Seeing as the Cold War will take a huge amount of new mechanics to implement, and might be too much to handle. It would be more of a standalone expansion than a DLC I think. Think about it, WW1 and WW2 both are European conflicts (for the most part, with some other theatres) where two alliances battle it out. The Cold War was a global, conplex, shifting war which never really developed into the "shooting war" on a scale that HOI can better represent.

In short: too much work, too different from the base game. I vote WW1 or Kaiserreich for large DLC's.

well, they tried to develop stand alone cold war in hoi theme, but it was canceled. thats why i posted it, to get as much as posible from this canceled game, which i likely love to play. but i asume they canceled it because they didnt liked how certain game mechanic work, so they have another try, since they can buil needed mechanic or other things in another dlcs before they make it.

yes, wwi sounds very nice, and i will love it to see, but i fear of implementation since wwi will be very event related with many posibilities/routes not taken. just look at russian civil war and finland indepence...and since pdox dont fully develop alternate history posibilities...what if russia decided to keep finland and other states (baltic states) insidee old empire, doesnt matter if red or whites. and if player play russian empire, which side he will be ?
i fear it will not hapen just because needed events and alternates. last events "heavy" game was euII (yes 2), and that is realy long time.

Well, IMO the Hoi3 WW1 mod worked quite fine. There aren't really that many alternate history possibilities beyond Russia, at least not too many more than for the vanilla game I would think.

I dont think the grand scale of HOI will be suitable to a cold war game.... there would have to be tones more options for spying and secret actions like funding certain groups and the assassinations of world leaders... Also, the units on screen are just too big and wont simulate the smaller units deployed. Id rather they concentrate on making a good WW2 game with a good AI
