Since we've had no cold war content (besides WW III scenarios in games like HoI II dlc and HoI III) would it be possible to have cold war content post launch?

As much as this topic is repeating itself the answer will repeat itself over and over again aswell.

There wont be a cold war expansion, simple as that. Podcat himself even confirmed that, since that would require a complete rework of the existing gameplay mechanics, which is completly out of scope of an expansion. There is a reason why CK, EU, VIC and HoI are seperate games instead of one big game running for almost 1200 years. Simply tacking on a cold war scenario simply wouldnt fit in and would feel misplaced, since basicly none of the political struggle could be reflected propperly, just as with an ww1 expansion.

Stuff like operation unthinkable can already be done in the vanilla game, since there is no hardcoded end and some of the tech trees also go on until 1950.

Podcat also mentioned that he thinks a korean war expansion could work, but did not say or deny that they will ever do one, to be clear.

Q: What is the planned end date for the game. Also are there any plans for extending the end date via dlc or something?
A: you get a score screen in 1948 but can keep playing. Time extensions are not impossible but a full cold war game is not realistic to be built on something so war focused as HOI. Korea etc is within reason tho.

As for the EvW part, you probably should read the forum rules.
Threads discussing East versus West will not be started, nor should members of the community request cannibalization of East versus West's programming for inclusion in Hearts of Iron IV. Threads engaging in this behavior will be closed

I sympathize for the people that keep asking though, can even see the train of their logic.

"Awww, this game looks awesome, shame it has to end after a decade. Would be cool if they could extend it"
"Hey, cold war dlc, hell yeah!"

Hearts of Iron is about remaking history, so not having a Cold War is ok. I think that some of the people requesting a Cold War DLC only wants an extended timeline with more techs, focuses, etc..

Cold War between East & West is only a possibility that happened historically. But HoI would be boring if everything happened like it did in real life !

I'd rather have DLCs to go "deeper", and not "wider". I'd like more mechanics, more immersion about ww2 then a timeline extension.

Cold war is an interesting era, but it's completely different from WW2. I wouldn't mind a seperate game from PDS about it though.

Agreed. Adding an extra 50 years onto the game is useless if the war ends with one superpower left instead of 2. If world domination is possible within 10 years for moderately skilled players, adding another half century would be pointless, since it would only be a matter of years, or a decade tops until you own everything.

Also, it would just make you rush to get rockets and nukes as soon as possible, because I'd you have them first, game over. If you have them 2nd, game over. Hoi players are an icy veined bunch. If they were the US president in 1945, they wouldn't wait to use them and allow the USSR time to catch up. The American flag would have roughly 4500 stars on it today :)

I'd rather pay for a separate Cold War title than a botched attempt to fit both WWII-style total war and the ideological proxy wars of Cold War under a single game. Covert Action rule, guys.

It would be glorious to guide your victorious Third Reich through the 1950's and beyond, trying to suppress pop movements, dealing with the United States and choosing a new political route as Hitler's health deteriorates. However I would rather Paradox build a game the way they want to rather than feel obliged to tack it on to an existing game as DLC.
