Long story short I need to research several allied ministers and so far I've had trouble. Does anyone know who the head of MI6 & MI5 were in 1950?

For MI6 (the Secret Intelligence Service), Maj. Gen. Stewart Menzies was Chief in 1950 (he served as Chief from 1939 to 1952). He was succeeded by John A. Sinclair (1952-56).

For MI5 (the Security Service), the Director General in 1950 was Percy Sillitoe (1946-53). He was succeeded by Dick White (1953-56).
