A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing
The coming war appeared trivial, yet it was a wolf in sheeps clothing.
The Bosporan's brought Pontus into the fray, and their armies vastly outnumbered Colchis', and far weighed them in terms of heavy infantry.
The capture of the Bosporan capital did not take long, and soon a peace had been signed renewing the agreement of tribute, yet at a greater amount due to the Bosporan's beligerent actions.
As Colchian troops moved across Trapezus toward Pontus itself, barbarians ambushed Shapur and defeated him, leaving a greater number of barbarians dead.
The horde marched into Pontus, where Shapur had intentionally retreated toward. Yet another loss was suffered, yet at a greater cost.
The weakness of the Colchian navy became apparent as they suffered a major defeat to Pontus, sinking four of the five ships available to Colchis. This allowed Pontus to land troops directly into the capital and Coraxi. Soon, Phasis fell to the enemy. As the capital burned, the nation tumbled into chaos as rebellions erupted across Colchians lands and enemy troops steamrolled over resistance movements. Colchis was falling.
The war was short and bloody. Few records remain of the battles and maneuvers that took place, but on the 5th of December, it is known that Colchis had occupied Pontus' colony of Trapezus (Pontus took advantage of Colchian troops engaging the natives) while Pontus now held Coraxi and Phasis.
A peace agreement was soon arranged. Kuji feared that if Soani fell, the entire nation would be forced into servitude toward Pontus or worse. He would not have this. A payment of Colchis' entire treasury and the passing of Coraxi was agreed upon. With Bosporan troops occupying the capital, the people of Colchis pressuring for peace and Kuji with a Bosporan blade held to his throat, few options presented themselves to Colchis.
To rub salt into the already weeping wound, the Bosporans had become bankrupt and could not pay their tribute. The economy recieved a heavy blow. A fast recovery was now seemingly far away.
The conquest of Coraxi and the loss of the treasury forced many to believe the dream had ended. The nightmares that surrounded Colchis were closing in, and no light remained.
But light did indeed remain, as the Seleucid's, eager for conquest after clashing with the egyptians to the south west, declared war upon Pontus.
The same spark that had lit within Kuji early on in his reign was reignited. The mists of rage had consumed Kuji, and nothing could quench his lust for redemption. Despite the resistance of the public, Kuji moved swiftly.
The Bosporans would pay.
Bankrupt and at war with the Seleucids, the Bosporans fell before Shapur as a bloodthirsty wish for revenge overtook Colchian troops. Phanagoria quickly
fell, and Bosporan troops, although providing a stalwart defence at Panticapaeum, gave way to the ferocity of the invaders. As the enemies walls crumbled and fell, Colchian troops burst through the hole in the enemy defences and rushed into the city. With both territories hammered into submission, the Bosporans folded.
