Oh I want more people in but my thing of it is this, as we are wanting more sales how hard would it have been to get it to these people, these streamers, back when the Beta release was going on and we were trying to get more folks to buy in back then? It is a tiny bit of forward planning, thought and consideration. They would have been involved in the Beta, we would have gotten more then as well as now, they would not look like such embarassing crap trying to play the game, and them putting it out the footage and story line amonth early would not be as big a deal as it would not look so blatantly inconsiderate of those who have supported Harebrained Schemes in all their games for years as well as having invested in the kickstarter. This feels like a disregard and disrespect or a lack of basic planning and logistics ability with someone in PR possibly needing to be replaced.
The backer beta release was heavily streamed on Twitch and Youtube.

He also at no point blamed the game for his own mistakes!

And what a breath of fresh air that was! One of the reasons I don't get into many streamers or let's players is that their "personalities" are reduced to being shrieking, ranting caricatures, assuming they care to make even that much effort instead of fumbling through a game for easy views and quick revenue.

Not Cohh though. By the end of his first stream, his mantra had become "I have so much to learn about this game."

This feels like a disregard and disrespect or a lack of basic planning and logistics ability with someone in PR possibly needing to be replaced.

Disregard and disrespect for the Kickstarter backers would've been for this game to have never been released at all, like many of the tragic Kickstarter stories where they just up and ran with the money to leave the backers in the dust. This is not that example, this is just HBS giving a handful of streamers the ability to share the game online for advertising. Hell, the Backer Beta was heavily streamed by a lot of notable streamers, including quill18, SidAlpha, TotalBiscuit, Marbozir, MoltenMetal, etc. so it's not like they don't know what they're doing

It's not like none of us are anxious to get the game ourselves, or don't feel a hint of jealousy at watching these streamers get to play the campaign first, but at the end of the day this is hardly a misstep on HBS part. This is just game marketing, not some dastardly evil scheme to make Kickstarter backers feel miserable.

Oh, and anyone else got a bit of a Homeworld vibe from the game's intro with the slide/animation thingy?

I said the same thing in a different thread. Apparently there's no direct connection between both using the same basic concept (fixed image with moving camera and or background elements and narration).

Also nowhere (as far as I know) was it stated backers would get the game before anyone else (aside from the beta skirmish).

Personally I don't see the downside of giving the backers the "press version" the streamers have. It'd only be more people posting and streaming and tweeting. But I also don't see any sort of obligation HBS would have to do so.

Greetings Mechwarriors,

A brief reminder;

Regarding bad language usage: This forum is a closer to E for everyone than the PG-13 of the old forums. Please avoid cursing, not even partly edited cursing like D**n for Damn ect. (Picked that one because its a good example, but its an acceptable to use word so no foul there) Please, we need to develop this habit.

Thank you and Carry on!

PR is done close to release. There was streaming of the beta, but such would never get the same attention because only die hard fans concern themselves with streams of a game long off that they cant play for a while.

This is the equivalent of Sports reporters viewing team practices. No one's being slighted because members of the media have access to pregame events. It doesnt diminish your ticket to the main event. Emotions are personal and we should all empathise with them, but we should view our emotions from an informed rational perspective to set them in their due light.

This Streaming is necessary for the business and could not have been done differently in the manner you refer to with even remotely the same success.

Because keeping thousands of people under embargo is impossible. They have the full game. They cannot show anything beyond a certain point. Enforcing that limitation on every backer cannot reasonably be expected to be done.

There's no embargo any more though. As I understood it the copy the streamers have only goes up to a certain point with the story.

Or are they just counting on streamers honoring their warning not to go past the designated point?

Well cohh stated he is under an embargo and has to stop at a certain mission. Enforcing the embargo on Twitch streamers is also possible.

"Liberation Panzer" or something similar. It is not, I shall note, the mission where the Argo is discovered and recovered - that was named "Axalan" or the name of the (unmapped) system they found the wreck in. I won't spoil anything here beyond that, and what we already know.

BUT there are procedurally generated missions showing up so it is possible to play the Merc sim for a long time and still have content.

I thought his mining mission was Hilarious. The way he went the wrong way lost the mission then had to reload it and play it twice and still almost lost it again.

Fun thing, I may need to rewatch but the camera directed him by panning to the wrong base first. It was commented this was a "known issue" as well later on to the NGNG stream, and nobody from HBS there gainsay'd it. It was still fun he won in spite of that, just with heavy losses.

Also fun, was his one procedurally generated mission to defend a base from attack and finding out they were coming from different angles and having to rush to get in there and prevent bonus objectives from being lost.
