I just want to note the irony in the fact that, despite discouraging save scumming being a design goal of HBS, in literally the first 3rd party lets play we see the guy is save scumming.

Oh, and anyone else got a bit of a Homeworld vibe from the game's intro with the slide/animation thingy?
I fully support the high audience count streamers reaching as many potential customers and converting them to BT. Selfishly I want to see the entire Battletech universe in all mediums make a wildly successful come back.I won't lie, I'd _love_ to get my hands on the build CohhCarnage played and I _am_ yellow with envy. (I mean, that's probably every single soul on this forum, lol), but I totally get why they did what they did and I totally support that decision.
I also really liked his stream (even though there have been a f**kton of facepalms and I may have made my neighbors panic once or twice with my shouting)

Ok, now with all of that out of the way, would someone _please_ make that friggin calendar make move faster?
Please?
I tripped over this a few weeks ago entirely by accident. Even being a multi-decades long fan of Battletech I somehowI had never heard of the game until last night (my time) and yet here I am on the forum and looking to choose which digital pre-purchase is better value for money. It was by chance I was watching the Cohh stream that got me totally hooked and many others I am sure. You guys backed a great game!
By the way do any of you recommend the digital deluxe version over the standard version?
He also at no point blamed the game for his own mistakes!Watching other people stream the game a month in advance when I've been waiting on it for like 2 years can really test one's patience. But I agree that those streamers ultimately serve to make Battletech a bigger success which in turn leads to more content for us. They're not taking anything away from us, they're adding to the cause.
And I loved Cohh's stream. The most important thing was that he conveyed how much he enjoyed playing it. The guy was having tons of fun despite making blunders, it was infectious. This is what strangers to the game need to see, this is what will want them to buy the game. Cohh didn't get mad about his mistakes, he didn't whine about "so much text!". Instead he had his eyes fixed on the screen and a grin on his face whenever he discovered something new. We need more streams like his. Even if the waiting kills us.![]()
Ironman is for Serious Players only, and that's fine. Being too strict about it would've driven players away. Did you see the look on Cohh's face when he thought it was Ironman because it didn't let him name his save slots?I just want to note the irony in the fact that, despite discouraging save scumming being a design goal of HBS, in literally the first 3rd party lets play we see the guy is save scumming.

i dont know, not enough data yet i think.I just want to note the irony in the fact that, despite discouraging save scumming being a design goal of HBS, in literally the first 3rd party lets play we see the guy is save scumming.
I said, and I think you agreed, that if you want to make Ironman a thing you must incentivize it. Well, we just got an example of that NOT happening.Yeah, I agree. A proper ironman mode is one thing - I hope we get that post-launch.
But I always thought, and said on the forums, that as a more general design goal trying to reduce people's desire to reload was a bad idea. Impossible to achieve, and not desirable to achieve even if you could.

1) first, what he really did was replay the mission in its entireity because of a wipe. I usually view save scumming as saving after every move to influence the RNG outcomes.
2) he wiped because he was still learning the systems. once he learned how the game played, try #2 was signfiicantly better. As one learns the game mechanics this would be less of a problem.
3) so, we need to see how the game plays if, on a mission, you loose a single mech or a pilot. Does the average player want to keep going or not? I imagine if you wipe an entire lance, you'll probably want to restart that mission - so in that sense its not truly ironman, but does the game encourage you to take some losses and keep going. THats what i'm looking/hoping for.

It doesn't bother me at all that Cohh wasn't down for Ironman, I'm just saying he would've been *more* down with it if it unlocked an achievement or some other reward (for example, a +2% value increase in random salvage, or such).
I suppose it feels "wrong" if you feel that you were contractually obligated to get first dibs on the game, but it doesn't change the fact that this was to get more interest in people who haven't seen or heard of the game from the population of people who watch streamers. Become a streamer with a million views yourself and you may get to play the game early, too!
If anything think of it this way: they're getting more people in, which means more support for HBS, which means more content down the line because there's more people excited to see what the devs can pull and willing to throw money at them to make it happen. "In success" etc. etc.
Oh I want more people in but my thing of it is this, as we are wanting more sales how hard would it have been to get it to these people, these streamers, back when the Beta release was going on and we were trying to get more folks to buy in back then? It is a tiny bit of forward planning, thought and consideration. They would have been involved in the Beta, we would have gotten more then as well as now, they would not look like such embarassing crap trying to play the game, and them putting it out the footage and story line amonth early would not be as big a deal as it would not look so blatantly inconsiderate of those who have supported Harebrained Schemes in all their games for years as well as having invested in the kickstarter. This feels like a disregard and disrespect or a lack of basic planning and logistics ability with someone in PR possibly needing to be replaced.
