That's just a fancy word for "coastal". It's really not any better.

I think people would find it more intuitive that it is used mainly for islands, since there's ample evidence people find the more unmarked word "Coastline" confusing (questions like "Why isn't every coastal province Coastline?" crop up regularly).
That's exactly why people in this thread have proposed renaming it to "Island" or whatever, after all.
