I would like to ask Devs that what is the point making an island or coastal city fortified when navies can blockade with out any problem with the fort's gun batteries???Historically Luiseberg in nova Scotia was a french fortress and British ships could not set sail up to saint Lawrence river unless they siege-ed down Luiseberg first, during seven year's war..so i propose some monthly attrition to enemy ships as well as my own ship when at war with a country with coastal forts...this way naval blockade should be more interesting because u can not keep your ships on adjacent sea province for ever as they will take attrition and you will have to replace them with new ships while they take repair,as of now you can blockade enemy ports with forts for ever...

Please share your thoughts guys..................

Fully agree.

I remember reading that 1 of napoleons first battles had him clearing a harbor of british ships by shooting them with cannons untill they withdrew.

Also the danes had forts around their strait that would shot any ships that didnt pay the toll.

Think I've seen it suggested before, only really works on choke points so would need a special mechanic for the few provinces it would be useful for.

If I recall the British built coastal forts around Cornwall in case the Spanish Armada attempted to invade from there. Also maybe controlling forts in key locations could allow a nation to make people pay tolls for entering, like in the case Ottomans and the Danes, or stop rival ships all together. In certain areas it could create a strait that can be crossed by troops, like Gibraltar and Tangiers.

In reality, even if a coastal province has a fort that doesn't let you get near it, you can still block other ships form resupplying this fort.

What you are talking about is relevant on straits and choke points.

that's the point...as you said Spain could never lay siege on Gibraltar unless they controlled the strait.my point is Netherlands had a connective string of forts so french troops had to invade via sea...my suggestions are Devs should implement some short of negative siege modifier unless the province with coastal fort are blockaded...not that easy it should be to be taken..A fort need to have a significance on land as well as nearby waters.

You mean a -2 modifier to dice rolls when a coastal fort is not blockaded 100% by your own or allies' ships? Like the one already implemented in the game?
