There is no excuse for a 1 province minor to be considered a threat by over 15 nations on normal mode. France, Denmark, Austria, Poland/Lithuania and Russia. those are threats.

Below is the result of two wars...two wars only. Previous attempt on hard mode, I got a coalition of 5 nations, 2 majors simply for having a diplomat get caught fabricating a claim on a rival. Seriously, wtf did you people do to this game?

I seriously had a coalition that went into muslim lands. WTF If I conquer Dutch territories then neighbors and Culture groups should be the only people directly affected by aggression. Not Major powers on the opposite side of 3rd party npcs...this is ridiculous.

And I know what im talking about because before AoW This was possible. Now its just a cookie cutter freebie to major powers who can stomp on minors due to their larger armies being able to crush rebellions and still not miss a beat.

Gods forbid a minor nation take a core, with their own culture and SAME form of government and NOT have autonomy. Most retarded addition to this game. Oh we have been united for 120 years? No we reject your government even though its been the ruling government for 50 years it is now new because the flag above my head says so...

AI bonuses are more legit hard mode than hard mode. Hard mode is mostly idiocy that experience trivializes by knowing how to manipulate the hidden game rules. At least with the AI bonuses, while somewhat of a stock and dull source of difficulty, you get a different picture of what you can get away with doing.

The second picture, is Friesland -> Netherlands on Ironman HARD mode before AoW. (For the smart ass who didn't bother checking)

The First picture is on Ironman, normal mode...15 member coalition after Aow.

Coalitions are a stupid mechanic anyway - how many coalitions were there historically, besides the religious leagues (which were essentially counter-coalitions against each other), the anti-Habsburg and the anti-France ones?

AoW set AE to scale on base tax rather than on province count taken, so it's not surprising that rich areas burn you more.

well tbh i never saw a reasonable and effective coalition against any war-like AI nation yet (befor AoW, havnt played it) like in one game i was playing QQ and managed to rly beat down timurids and AQ, and ottomans were waging war everywhere, europe, mid east, africa... and i felt rly bad about the power they had! so i made a coalition against them. but then even russia who was rivals with ottomans or their natural enemies (austria, hungary, commonwealth) didnt want to join at all! even when they could not beat that damned green behemoth down themselves! so i just gave up on coalitions build up army and mil tech asap and as turks went to a big war, just stabbed them in the back!

but i've seen a couple of rly big and nasty coalitions against myself!!!

coalitions are a purely anti-human blobbing mechanic, historical or not. Even so, human players blob like crazy anyways. There is no meaningful way to limit human blobbing, except to either play against human opponents, or human-like AI. Also, don't fabricate too many claims.. they tend to piss people off :)

Coalitions also tend to spiral real quick. You can build up a ton of AE with one or two countries, but if no one else cares then no coalitions form. But once one country joins in, everyone else will frequently dogpile in. Just wait a year or two, and half those countries will probably leave. Also, grab the diplo adviser that increases relations over time, it helps bring down AE by quite a bit.

Rather, don't fabricate too many early.

Once nations have 200+ AE with you, another 50 isn't going to matter.

1. Fabricate a claim on all provinces that you want to take and store a lot of cash (70 ducats per base tax that you want to annex should suffice); hiring a spy offensive advisor will help with not being caught.
2. Ally someone that can´t core your claims, if they are allied with the HRE (if applicable) it is even better.
3. Win the war, then transfer the occupation to your allies that can´t core the provinces and sign the peace treaty.
4. Your allies will try to sell you the provinces that you can´t core because you have a claim.
5. Watch your former allies being ravaged by a coalition war.

Yeah, coalitions are a dumb anti-human mechanic. And, as someone who is just learning EUIV, its really frustrating that the game is catered to people who know all the little tricks. Sometimes, I feel like paradox looks here and goes "oh, DDRJake conquered the world as Ryuku using outrageous exploits, time to nerf the player to make that impossible. Screw beginners."

No the game is not catered for people who know all the little tricks; the people that know the little tricks are people that already know the mechanics very well so they are able to work around the cheesy game rules each time PDS changes them for whatever reason. Btw the ultimate and dumbest anti-human (...) mechanic are rebels; rebels are so dumb in this game that despite knowing how to avoid them (therefore make them useless) I started a thread soon after 1.8 came out to expose this arcade mechanic and guess what? People here have mixed feelings to the point that some ppl actually love them so that is why Paradox does what it does and the beginners keep getting screwed.

You're not a one province minor - you're someone who's just pentupled (probably not a word, but should be!) your land size and wealth in the space of a few years - if anyone did that nowadays there would be a coalition against them, just look around at the latest growth in the middle east.
