Hi all,

I currently have 4 countries in a coalition against me, Yemen and Iraq in the middle east, and 2 Indian factions in India, If I declare war on Yemen, will the Indian factions get involved?

Cheers Knoddy

Yes, religion does not matter in a coalition war, even if you use a religious CB. For example, Catholic Spain *will* defend a Protestant or Sunni nation being attacked by the target of a coalition they both are part of, even if the target is the crusade target and you use "X Purge of Y Heresy"/"X Crusade against Y" as the CB. The only exceptions are if there is infighting in the coalition or if you declare war on the ally of a coalition member and that member gets pulled in (I think that declaring on the vassal/PU of a coalition member is also safe, but I've not been in a position to try recently).

Declaring war on a vassal will drag in the entire coalition. I do think that it's silly that a Catholic Spain would defend a Sunni Najd because the coalition system is so poorly implemented. back in those days they would be more than happy if some kind of power was taking out Sunni nations and annexing them.

Sometimes you'll see countries that have no idea the other country exists be in the same coalition if you spread far enough before others. It makes no sense other than to act as a second arbitrary barrier to over-extension.
