To the respectful Sir Dorian Russell
Chief Executive of the East India Company
Dear Sir Russell,
I would like to apologise to you for the misunderstanding of my words in regards to the recent war with Portugal. I was referring that it would have been more beneficial to have "made our point" by just demanding Timor island instead of robbing Portugal of it's empire. Even Goa could have been added but I do feel the Portuguese make better allies than enemies, allies we do have few of these days, considering the majority of European powers seek to steal Britain's glory.
However, with that aside, I do hope that we can continue to work closely as we have been doing, Sir Russell, both the Australasia colonial administration and the East India Company. I do feel though that Timor island, instead of being governed directly by the crown would be better under Australasia's administration due to the closeness in distance. It is a suggestion and by no means, a demand.
In regards to Sir O'Connell's foot, do you not recall sir that the cries for war was primarily to avenge Sir O'Connell's injury in his honour? That is why I refer to the man's foot. Nothing against him but history will look back and see no valid excuse for our declaration of war other than the foot and honour of Sir O'Connell.
I wish you the best, Sir Russell. I hope this little misunderstanding can be laid to rest.
Yours Sincerely,
Sir James Kensington
Governor General for Australasia
Chief Executive of the East India Company
