Ok, maybe it's nothing new (especially since there's an option available to turn off clustered start) but it's still interesting, and kinda funny, I think. :D
So, this one time I start a new game and my star system appears at the edge of fallen empire space. Border friction is one thing, but I appeared inside their space. So obviously, they instantly contacted, insulted, and demanded that I liberate their space if I know what's good for me. Ok, so controlling a fledling empire at game-start, the reasonable thing to do was to comply and just leave, but I couldn't because I didn't yet research colonizing, and I still had to explore for a habitable world to move my capital to (provided I didn't need to research that too o_O). So naturally, the empire attacks and whipes me off the face of the galaxy! :(
What I find interesting is the idea of starting off as a separatist state, or as a civilization that really didn't know its planet was supposed to be someone else's domain (as if fallen empires have Prime Directive :p).
What kinda annoys me in vanilla Stellaris is the fact that you can't much communicate with fallen empires. It's just two lines that don't have influence on your relations with them (unless you declare war or something, or if the empire awakens and you have to choose a side, but that's something else entirely). And while I don't think this thread will have any impact upon the future updates, such things are clearly something to consider.
