Cloud save game corruption?

Hi,

I'd like to know whether there exist known problems that may cause save game corruption? I have played CK2 for 400 hours, with about 5 or 6 playthroughs broken by save corruption. Two of which happened after 1400...

What is the likely cause of save corruption? Shaky network (surely China isn't the best location to keep connectivity with a Steam server)? Bugs? Is there anything I can do to reduce the chance it happens?

Today the vile force of corruption strikes again and broke my first Indian game at about 1100 AD...

There are any number of problems that might corrupt a save game - or any other document file on your PC. Yes, application bugs, hardware faults, malware, network dropouts if using cloud saves, the list goes on.

But how do you know the file is corrupt (ie scrambled) rather than just having bugs in it?
