Seeing as they're filling the dual role of both land- and carrier-based dive bomber here, I was wondering...why not just change the name of the unit to Dive Bomber?

More elegant to use in a sentence, more consistent with the rest of the aircraft lineup (naval bomber, strategic bomber, etc.), more accurate to how most of these aircraft were referred to within the time period, and particularly in regards to how they're used when deployed from an aircraft carrier.

That or there ought to be a divide between the CAS and dive bomber units, as I just realized we could see Sturmoviks getting deployed from aircraft carriers.

CAS is a more general term, dive bomber was becoming obsolete quite quickly with the introduction of things like rocket and powerful auto cannons that could do the same but better then dive bombing could.

I'd err on keeping it as CAS - the most-produced military aircraft in history, the IL-2, was a CAS aircraft that wasn't a dive bomber, and many of the allied CAS weren't dive bombers either. CAS can include dive bombers, so is still technically correct, but calling it dive bomber narrows the field to exclude the majority of CAS aircraft in the conflict (in number produced).

Close Air Support isnt just dive bombers. Later in the war the russians had the IL-2 and the US used the P-47 as CAS for example. Rockets and auto-cannons replaced dive bombers for those nations basicly.

And dive bombers aren't just about CAS either. Remember that many German tactical bombers like the Ju-88 was also built to use dive bombing.

Although it looks like Jet aircraft don't have the flag for being carrier-borne though....
