I see many posts about the first two buildings that people put on a new colony are the robot factory and the gene clinic. I would have thought the clone vats, with their 33% growth bonus, would be better than the 10% bonus (?) from 2 geneticists. (plus, I think, happiness?)

Can someone explain?

Clone Vats are not available as early as either of the other. By the time you get Clone Vats, you're probably not founding new colonies, but taking those where you can build all three of the buildings at once, anyways.

Clone vats are better option, but it's limited to bio ascension. When people discuss new colonies they often mean new colonies in early game.

Where do you resettle them from? Up until late game more pops are always better, and an extra pop on a highly developed planet is better than an extra pop on a new one.

Where do you resettle them from? Up until late game more pops are always better, and an extra pop on a highly developed planet is better than an extra pop on a new one.

Early game, 2 medical workers on a new colony can be worth more than two farmers on the capitol (substitute for any worker type producing something you aren't short on), at least long-term.

Where do you resettle them from?
you know...there is a thing called war. you claim planet you like. you take it. and as a result you get a bunch of pops. then you resettle them. (usually then I buy 1 robot from the market. leave him alone on newly acquired planet and then disassemble him to get rid of the planet and reduce empire size\increase cohesion)

this probably will not work unless you're hivemind, machine, or authoritarian spiritualist.

and if there are no planets to take - you can resettle pops from your other worlds(but be careful not to destroy the buildings)

in my games - yes. there are usually some(and no one buys them. ever) unless your galaxy has no materialist empires.
though i'd prefer a simpler way to abandon a colony. like a decision or just ability to resettle the last pop.

Technically the robot assembly is a +67% growth speed increase, and is also not affected by the 50% malus, so there's that. Of course it's more costly to maintain than the clone vat but the bonus is very significant.

Ah thanks. I actually though that malus stayed for a fixed time, rather than a needed number of pops.

Ah thanks. I actually though that malus stayed for a fixed time, rather than a needed number of pops.

I believe it actually stays until you upgrade your initial colony shelter into a proper capital building, which requires 10 pops on the colony.

Edit: I forgot to mention that consequently, hive minds do not suffer the initial growth penalty because their colonies start out with a real capital building.

you know...there is a thing called war. you claim planet you like. you take it. and as a result you get a bunch of pops. then you resettle them. (usually then I buy 1 robot from the market. leave him alone on newly acquired planet and then disassemble him to get rid of the planet and reduce empire size\increase cohesion)

this probably will not work unless you're hivemind, machine, or authoritarian spiritualist.

and if there are no planets to take - you can resettle pops from your other worlds(but be careful not to destroy the buildings)

I prefer purging any pops I get from conquest after they changed the growth system. That means resettling my own pops tot he new planet(s), of course, but no way I am going to let my entire species stop reproducing just because I took a planet from someone else.

Early game, 2 medical workers on a new colony can be worth more than two farmers on the capitol (substitute for any worker type producing something you aren't short on), at least long-term.
I am a big proponent of growth modifiers, but I firmly believe that you are better off employing pops in Monuments or Research labs.
Gene clinics are... really niche in terms of their utility.

oh, really? they've changed it? great news!
I prefer purging any pops I get from conquest after they changed the growth system. That means resettling my own pops tot he new planet(s), of course, but no way I am going to let my entire species stop reproducing just because I took a planet from someone else.
pre-2.2 I did this too. but right now since they've changed growth I prefer enslaving and resettling instead.
how else will I fill my planets to 80+ fast? :D
