I'm playing as Austria which gets lots of PU CB as rewards for missions.

However, one thing I've noticed which could be a trap for some players, is that some of the missions will only offer permanent claims until a certain condition is complete.

Firstly, if the target is a subject nation, it converts to claims. But I think it should be marked, so that players know they should keep nations like Milan and Naples free/free them from their overlords, so they can then use the PU CB.

Secondly, Austria gets a potential PU on Bavaria. Which doesn't exist at game start. And if you act as per normal as the Emperor, you will likely prevent the formation of Bavaria, by breaking them up when they start conquering each other. I didn't know that it converted into a PU, so I kept knocking them apart. Then when it did form, I by chance noticed the mission change which I hadn't taken yet. Which was lucky, as otherwise, I could have wasted a valuable PU for permanent claims I likely wouldn't have used.

It's a good idea!
But also, what use do you have for a bavaria PU? I personally prefer to keep them split up for the extra IA instead of having them in a PU. I dont really need them.

I got really annoyed recently when I discovered that Provence has the exact opposite condition. That being that if you complete the mission, Claims of Good King Rene, you get cores on all of Naples.... only if Naples is currently a subject under a PU. If Naples are independent, then you instead just get a personal union over Naples.

This is annoying to be, because while it is debatable, in my opinion the cores are vastly more appealing to me than the PU. My ideal solution for the situation would be to give the player both the cores and the PU, and let them choose which of the two they want to use.

If they go with the PU, then they have the cores and so 50 years later when they go to integrate they are vastly cheaper to do so, as you only have to pay for Sicily and Malta if you have fed Naples their cores back.

On the other hand, Naples at game start costs... I think it is 130% war score to full annex so if you do go for the conquest path, it isn't like you can eat them in a single war anyway. So you would need to wage two separate wars to reclaim all of the core provinces they own.

That means that a Provence player is actually faced with a strategic decision to make. They have two equally valid paths to taking over Naples, and the player decides which one is better in their own personal opinion. The current way it works just has the game pigeon hole you down one specific path based on how quickly they completed the previous mission.
