We do not have various different religions and cultures in the game, as you might see in, for example, Europa Universalis. ("Religion" in an abstract sense is often mentioned however.) Population units ("Pops") can each have their own species, ethics and grievances however, which can encourage them to join Factions.

:D But there is only one true religion... Friendship...

I was wondering, and didnt want to open a thread in case it has already been answered, do a tech tree map is available ingame? I mean, I know there is not technically a tech tree like in Civ series, but do I have a way to plan my research ahead, like knowing that 1 out of the 3 choices brings me closer to lets say battleship tech while the other 2 no? Hope what I mean is clear :)

Heya guys, I did not want to open a separate thread for my ramblings.

I watched most of the Blorg videos on youtube, but I'm not entirely sold on the game...I really, really want to like it but...

The start looked fantastic, new plantes/sytems to explore, mining stations to build, anomalies to research. Cool stuff. Then the first contacts. I was so excited to see who have we just met...but every single time it was some xenophobic jackass :( Wiz managed to get 1 guy to befriend him, but they did it only to safeguard themselves from their other neighbour. It was like allying Lorraine as France against Austria... pointless.
So it seems that the diplo game is out of the window. (Also if I saw correctly, you cannot demand the vassalization of your allies, what?)

Okay, let's see expansion. Wiz had a quick war early ... that brought the Just League opon him. And he also explained that these are not just a short term alliance of convenience (like coalitions in EU IV), but they can be stable, lasting ones. Evidently, he spent more than 10 episodes to finally engage the Just League. And the war is progressing so damn sloooooow. Ships move slow, planets take ages to subdue + he got his ass kicked when he dared to split up his fleet. His only luck is that the AI plays defensively, otherwise there wouldn't be any Party Zone left.

I know he plays on fast mode and he plays to explain things to us, so the game can be played "better", but right now it looks too slow on the action and at the same time, tedious on the micro to me.

Please someone convince me that I'm wrong :)

Come to think about it, you do have a point.

Would be good at least to have some sort of "Deep Space Radar Telemetry" Tech that can be researched or something. At least have some "vision" over enemy fleet movement in the systems close by to the border.

A structure to be constructed, or Observation Post on a planet or Space Station. Maybe have it "invisible" until the enemy gets in orbit.

I don't see how you'll be able to maintain 4+ fleets of big enough numbers to defend the borders on all sides of a conflict.

If I'm remembering correctly his fleet didn't get beaten because it was split but rather because his ship loadout didn't counter the weapons being used by the enemy fleet.

Also, as a note kinda related to my previous post:

What exactly would the game look like if you start on a maximum size map with the lowest number of "other empires" already up and running.

And I'm talking about:

1. Early game = first ~5 years

2. Early - Mid game = 5 - 10 years

3. 10-30

4. 30+

5. 100+

How fast would the AI colonize the map ?

If I'm remembering correctly his fleet didn't get beaten because it was split but rather because his ship loadout didn't counter the weapons being used by the enemy fleet.
He had 9K worth of ships, and splitted them into two: 5K for the northern front and 4K the southern one. This southern 4K got beaten by the enemy's 4K.
Sure, the loadout was sub-optimal but without the split the 9K would have trumped the enemy's 4K easily.

The war started in the 14th episode (12 mins in) and so far (till the end of the 16th episode), a total of 14 years of war has passed and this took around 90 minutes.
Please note that Wiz spent most of the wartime in the northern region with his ally, and yet they together weren't able to completly neutralize that one enemy. Also they have hardly touched the other 2.

Good point Xyed, sometimes the most southern enemy attacked Wiz, and they came out of nowhere! I cannot imagine how you are supposed to protect a big empire.
We need space-forts! (not) :)

Can be there 2 kind of pops that share appearance but have different traits?

like some humans that are thrifty, and other group of humans are adaptive.

If that so, they must be defined at the beginning of the game? or can they change in the time?

During the game species might split into subspecies with different traits. One example shown was pops living on hostile planet genetically altered themselves to adapt to the planet resulting in new subspecies that liked different planets.

If I recall correctly he also then split the 4k into two fleets of 2k each, which was a pretty small fleet considering he hadn't yet neutralized the two empires to his south. This was more a matter of playing on very fast and not being able to pay attention to what was going on than any actual problem with the game. He ended up being outgunned AND outnumbered.

So the war that is going on with the Blorg isn't very well thought out. Surprise, they are going fast and they are trying to get to Sol for the viewers. They haven't taken the time to build up defenses in systems to allow them to focus their fleets more, and that's understandable, they don't want viewers to just sit around and watch them build defenses, not so action pacted. From what we've seen resource wise, they have plenty they can expend on fortress maintenance, and while it doesn't seem like wars allow for to much progression or take over, this seems like a long game, with each new game providing new strategic choices. Looks to me that Stellaris should take at least 2-4 weeks to play one game, with some steady game play each day. Which is awesome.
I don't see quite enough diplomacy going on just yet, pacts with other races and treaties.

The galaxy is pretty big and folks seem to be worrying about what's going on 'locally.' The diplomacy seems about right at the moment, much like EU IV, I'd be working on relations/alliances on the nearby countries. Perhaps short sighted, but the Frienderation would start worrying about that other Federation when that other federation becomes a problem.

But if you're referring to trade deals and such, then yeah, I'd point to what you said earlier and say things are being rushed for sake of the audience.

Somehow funny how guys are talking about Multiplayer and how many are playing that. 15% of the community is playing MP? Doesn't sound like a real number but hey, nobody can tell that exactly. And it's funny to see that more players disagree to some statements about multiplayer. Looks like the majority at least would like to have the option to play MP, even if some of them will not do it. :p

I just can tell ya: I'm only buying this game, if the MP works fine. To be fair I will play it in SP too, but I usually don't waste my money for games without MP cause I want to enjoy it with some friends too, no matter if it takes month to complete (cause of playing just at weekends together).

And a suggestion to the developer: Maybe you could do an addon with religion in it later. It could spice up the game a bit more and giving you the opportunity to put in additional events. Maybe you could put in religious influences leading to rebelling worlds, maybe takeover of colonies, some parts of the game you can't completly control yourself (fanatics), so your people will do different things on their own leading to good or bad consequences ...
Oh you could do so much with it, depending on how much time you can put into it ;)

Oh you could do so much with it, depending on how much time you can put into it ;)
I like this Religion addon idea, this game has nearly everything needed to create a believable Imperium of Man all you need is the ability to form a religion about the one true God Emperor (and maybe the ability to Exterminatus xenos planets ;-] that be cool too)
