Well in a lot of strategy games "conquest victory" means like 1/2 or 1/4 or whatever portion of the map or some other kind of domination but not 100% of the map. This often means you can win accidentaly the game before securing sector you really really want to have, so some kind of "play after achieving victory" would be nice. Even EU4 got one today ^ ^

@Doomdark I have searched around a bit but can't seem to find any mentions of this: Will it be possible to see Binary Star, Multiple Star Systems, Dark Stars or Black Holes in some systems in the game? It would be pretty cool to see a bit of system and star variety apart from the usual star types. Also, will there be any events that makes a star go Supernova? Or will the stars in the galaxy just remain constant and unchanging?

So far we've seen Black Holes and Pulsars. I think binary stars have been confirmed but I'm not entirely sure about these. We also know that of the 'normal' stars there is some variety in type, which dose have gameplay effects. I don't think the engine would allow the star changing but I'll be happy to be proved wrong on that.

The last we've heard about binary stars is that they're cool and maybe they'll put them in.

As for the star changing, the engine could surely handle it (it would just be an event to change the variable, and all they would have to do is tell the game to allow events to change it). However, stars change on a time scale that is very long compared to a game of Stellaris (even a hypergiant will last for millions of years), so it would be a lot of complexity added to the game (unless you'd rather it be a mean time to happen thing, in which case it would be tracking a thousand extra events therefore adding CPU load) for no improvement to gameplay.

There are black holes there are pulsars, neutron stars and a bunch of main types single stars.

At the launch there will be no multiple star systems.

I didn`t hear about supernovas or anything like that either. However as a mentioned before, the game time-span is a tiny fraction in a star life-time so even dying star would be dying for a longer time the game will last. I think it may be a case for some additional events for DLC like Nova or Supernova expolosion outside "playable" 100-1000 stars. Cause even now there are not that many star explosions we can detect (and it is rather easy to detect xD) so stars aren`t exploding on a daily basis. I dont know if it is in game yet, but as I said is a good material for like 2-10 events with some research possibility, like these miniquests with ancient ruins etc.

Maybe this question is for the 6th point...

What about xenolinguistics? I'ts very interesting the point that communications with other species in first-contact can be unsuccessful. Xenolinguistics mechanics force us to invest in efforts to make translations and other stuff relationated with diplomacy. Okay, no religion nor culture, but what about languages?

think about it, a filthy human race contacts with a Glorious Blorg Master Race, who only wants to "join" humans to his cause. Humans do not understand because a lack on xenolinguistics and declare war to Blorgs due fear. Blorgs, who are to comprehensive and compassive, blow 'em all.

So I know that Stellaris is only going to be distributed through Steam. But will I need to keep Steam installed to run the game? What about multi-player, I've heard that it relies on Steam in some way? Clarity would be appreciated before I buy.

PDS games work like this: You need Steam to install and update the game. Also for MP. But for SP, you can copy the folder over to anywhere or just shut down Steam and forget about the program, playing like a pro.

Hello to everyone,
themunck, in this post, asks about the consequences of long term passive observation of "younger races". In particular, what would happen if a new race achieve FTL after we colonized another planet (or more) in their system? Would our colony be automatically abandoned? Would the new race declare us enemy, especially in case we didn't interfere with their natural evolution?
