From my experience, once your fleet reaches a strength of 60k the game starts rolling the chance for them to wake up every month or so, although it's a significantly low chance. In some campaigns, I reach 120k fleet power before they nod awake. My most recent campaign saw me conquering two fallen empires at my borders, and I would have gotten the third if they hadn't woken up during my war for Earth.

So basically you start seeing sleepers awaken after you or anybody else reaches 60k fleet power but with a low chance. Since the chance keeps rolling, the butterfly of chaos theory will eventually be a thing and they'll wake up.

Can you elaborate on what the Wiki means by "Global Flag"? Is it one of those console commands?

Are you kidding me!? I always thought that having 4 of those dastards increases the chance off the galaxy to go crazy! It actually lessens the chance?

Speaking of fallen empires, is there a way to increase chances (with any means) of a non-opposite FE going at each other? Example would be a xenophone awakened empire declaring war against a spiritualist awakened empire.

Is there also a way to start a "special" War in Heaven with all 4 Awakened Empires going at each other?

The check occurs for every Fallen Empire, so the multiplier is only there to keep the average awakening at 50.

Only one empire is allowed to awaken. If it has a rival, then the rival can initiate the War in Heaven,

    • If a Fallen Empire Planet was taken, the MTTH is cut by 10

Pretty much that. I should know, I wrote most of it ;)

A note on "default" empires:
Player and AI Empires count as them.
Crisis, FE and aFE do not count.
If you liberate a FE, then this new empire DOES count as default.
So no conquest or liberation.

The best ways to avoid/deal with a awakening, are federations or stripping away thier fleets beforehand (ideally let them decalre).

Can you elaborate on what the Wiki means by "Global Flag"? Is it one of those console commands?
Other Global Flag is "Galactic Crisis Happened" (with subflags for ever crisis). "Worm in waiting triggered" (not the actually name of that flag).

Scripts in game are generally barred for exchanging any information. Global, Country, Planet and Pop-Flags are the only way stuff can be tracked (like who triggered that AI uprising, wich pops were modded by enviromental adaptation, wich planet had that asteroid incomming, wich System had wich Guardian).

So for a War in Heaven, it has to be 2 Fallen Empires with opposing ethos?
1 has to normally awaken (not guardian).
That one has to pick a rival there and then.
Then that rival awakens after 10 years.

Of course you need Leviathan active during the original awakening.

From the Stellaris Wiki:
Awakened

Giants in the playground... - player response to the first Awaking Empire
A Fallen empire in this state stops being passive and attempts to shape the future of the galaxy, having considerable technological and starting resource advantages even compared to mid- or late-game empires. The following rules apply to standard awakening (which might trigger a war in Heaven):

  • At least 100 Years must have passed, their Fleet power is above 40,000 and they are not at war.
  • A default Empire getting too strong (40k/50k/60k Fleet power, respectively in Normal, Hard and Insane difficulties) or has Conquered a Fallen Empire World
  • There has been no Awakening and No Guardians of the Galaxy Awakening.
  • The MTTH is 50 Years, modified as following:
    • If there is more then one Fallen Empire in the game, the MTTH is multiplied by the number of Fallen Empires
    • If an Empire has 60k/80k/100k Fleetpower, the MTTH halved
    • If a Fallen Empire Planet was taken, the MTTH is cut by 10
    • If the Global Flag "high_awaken_chance" is set, the MTTH is cut by 100. There is no event that set that flag
  • This is not an Endgame Crisis
  • The Fallen Empire's entry in the Contacts list is updated with a new name and is placed in the "Others" section instead of "Fallen Empires".
  • Because the Awakened Empire is a new Empire replacing the Fallen Empire, a new first contact will occur.
The awakened empires will change their government type to Awakening Ascendancy and participate in galactic affairs more openly and aggressively with their own agenda. Anyone choosing not to obey their orders could face a long, tough war with the overwhelming might an awakened empire can bring to bear. However, their fleets are the most reliable guardian forces when the entire galaxy is under threat of endgame crisis.
wait so if this is true, how do you get 2 to awaken and get a war in heaven?

1/4 of chance, but the event is checked for 4 FE's , so the net resoult is the same.
Another way to see this: the number of Fe's does not influence the chance of this event...

Normal awakening picks a rival. Rival awakens 10 years later.
But only if you got Leviathan Story pack running.
