The Old Vic thread has been dead for a very long time, so I have no idea what people think of it. Now if I would at some point get a little time to mod (it has been ages since I did, but you never know), would you have anything you'd like improved/changed in an Old Vic like mod? That is, only gfx.

Honestly, I can't think of anything gfx wise I would change. In fact, I'm probably weird, but even when interface elements were slightly out of alignment, I preferred its look to the regular Vic2 interface.

Even the anachronistic sailing ships on the naval interface (when I have fleets full of dreadnoughts) felt fine.

I liked the "woodenness" of the whole thing. (I know that would normally be an insult to acting, but you understand what I mean, here.) It really felt like an antique office, perhaps where Cratchett or Scrooge would sit, plotting the economic viability of the British conquest of China while arguing over whether to put coal on the fire on Christmas Eve.

I personally don't care about the loading screen artwork, but that's not something I consider important.

Like I said, though, I'm weird. :)

The thing is, the end product was not the problem, rather it was that Paradox released it for a new patch which didn't exist when I did the DLC. Anyway, there won't be a new Old Vic.

Sorry, but you know how Paradox works. Beta patches after beta patches and then an official patch that has new bugs. We're forced to constantly upgrade our game, so your consumer base will expect you to do the same, as unfair as this may sound.

Well I'm not a parth of Paradox, so I have nothing to do with their patches. I'm hired externally to do a single DLC. That Paradox releases a new patch which breaks the DLC before they release it, well that's really out of my hands.

Danevang is not to blame here.

I had the same problems with the new add-on FTM for HOI3 last year. They added here and there some stuff and because of that I had to recheck my whole widescreen mod wich also touches nearly all the interface.
If you look at the gui files you can understand how complex it could be. And it is even worse, at least for HOI3, as it looks.

So adapting the old mod to the current state is something someone could do, but would need a serious amount of time to check all files again..
The initial work was very likely paid for a current game state/patch version. And after the work was done/delivered/paid, a new patch was released wich changed the gui files again. So it was screwed up, sadly, as the look is brilliant.
And if Paradox did not make agreements to the mod creator to keep the mod up to date..
Afaik I read that they made an agreement for the HOI3-DLC's by Devildread and the one done together with Danevang, so that they had to do updates for the patches from SF, but not for FTM.
IIRC Devildread did for his FTM DLC's a Beta-patch for free so far.

That "dilemma" was maybe one of the things Paradox thought about a new way to get "mods" done/integrated in a better way and lead finally to the new patch&expansion policiy wich starts with CKII.

Danevang, drop me a line if you need help with porting if that is allowed.
Maybe it is just hard to find the error and there is no need of big changes.
Thats how it was back then with the HOI3 add-on..

It is a lot of work, you're absolutely right. Especially with all the changes to files in Old Vic.

The thing is, there is no part of the deal specifying "keeping it up to date for ever" (not in Dies Irae for HoI3 either, Devildread has just been working his butt off doing that anyway out of the kindess of his heart). If you look at all the maintenance needed when patches come out, the DLCs are not favorable deals. The reason they've been updated so often is because their makers are fans of the games too. For Old Vic, I've been working on several other DLCs, plus as a gfx artist on CK2, so it is not that I have been lazy, I simply haven't had the time to update it for AHD too. That would take a lot of work, and rather a redo would be recommended, removing the need to change so many files in future patches, and making it look even better. But Paradox is not interested in that, and so it won't happen. I simply haven't got the spare time to make it AHD compatible, and to keep it so with all the AHD patches too.

I wanted to bump this because I am really impressed with how the Old Vic / AHD issue was handled, at least for Steam customers. People who have purchased Old Vic get a %15 discount on A House Divided. That is a really fair solution. I don't think any other distributors have followed suit so it's a big win for Steam as far as treating the customer right is concerned.

I actually own the Gamersgate version of Victoria 2, but now I won't feel so bad buying Paradox games from Steam in the future.

To Danevang: Have fun working on CK2, and all your future projects :)
