Claiming kingdoms with Elective laws

Maybe Im missing something during my gameplay but I find it very hard (as in never managed to do it) claiming a kingdom when you have a "weak claim" and they have agnatic elective sucession. They never go civil war, never have a female on throne, never have a regency etc etc Any ideas guys?

Adventurer invasion. I've been waiting to press a claim on an elective kingdom in my current game, and then it became available. The king is in good health and not in hiding, there's no regency and the only war they're involved in is against a host.
