Just as my last tread, I just want to know if there is any trade offs involved in claiming a colony (other than making other nations angry).

In some places, like the Belgian Congo, the raw materials themselves were valuable enough to make the profit for the owners, but this was pretty rare. Later it became 'coloring the map'.

Why to have two threads of the same topic?

Where are the other one???
The previous tread I made were about granting statehood, that is only possible after the colony is claimed, therefor two questions.

Sorry, my mistake.
Anyway, the main benefit of not claiming is somewhat similar to not granting statehood: the pops in unclaimed provinces don't require money for crime, education or reforms.

I would think, you would claim a colony to get the resources and to much sure no one else got them...

Can you claim a colony at any point after you have built the required buildings or do you just get a "do you want to claim this colony" pop up as soon as you fulfill the requirements?
