What of Roma?

To another existing duchy, or create a new one for Roma+Orbetello (as it can be argued whether the latter really belonged to the area of Tuscany during the timeframe)?

I threw Roma to Spoleto. We have far too many two-prov duchies there to not add another one, especially when it's not strictly historical one.

Well, the region never was never made a Christian duchy by a crusader coming from far away, so historical precedent is kinda problematic ;). There is plenty of duchies named after cities after all, many of them fantasy ones.
Ok, but then wouldn't they likely adopt regional names or simplified versions then if there is no precident?

Not necessarily. Or if they would, they might go for "Arabia", but that's not good, right? ;)

Well they would have adopted Arabia for the kingdom. Western Arabia would have been among the more likely if they wanted to keep Arabia in the title, especially since even at this time they knew arabia was the entire penesula.

Well, I'll call it Medina anyway.

But why? Given all the facts there is certainly a better name.

(the name, that is)
I said the Duchy of Hedjaz is imo the best. Of the tanslations this is the most english-sounding one (Hejaz and Hijaz being the others).

Others would be Arabia Felix, Costal Arabia or Western Arabia (or variations of those names).

Because the options are:
A) Arabia <-- You don't like it
B) Hedjaz <-- I don't like it
C) Medina
D) Arabia Whatever <-- Long and unwieldy*

*Of course there are other long and unwieldy names around, but they are almost exclusively names of historical entities.

Though I suppose I should add "You don't like it" on Medina too. :D

On the other hand, Medina would match it's four letter tag (MEDI) too, which would be nice.

Where does Hedjaz come from?

Arabia Felix though is the historical ancient name of the region i believe even recogized in europe as such. This area was the west cosat from northern Red Sea to southern part of the Red Sea, If any name other than Hejaz were to be used this should be it. While it was never a roman province, the area was known to the romans and this is the name they went by.

Arabia Petrara was the name given to the region north of it, the area they actually ruled, which was mountainous and Arabia Desarta to the northeast of that and all other points Arabia Deserta.

Its the arab name mis-trasnlated into english (Hijaz is closer translation) This name has been used for some time, but i'm unsure if it was in CK time period.

Was the name Hejaz used by Europeans before the contemporary era?

I suppose we have to go by Arabia Felix then. ;)

No i don't think Hejaz was used before then. Also the two surrounding duchy's should be renamed to Arabia Petrara and Arabia Deserta unless more modern duchy or regional names were used (more modern than Roman but still CK-era ones).

I think it should be "Arabia Petrae" to be correct spelling. Olaus Petrus posted them earlier in this thread. Those two relevant duchies are "Anbar" and "Aqaba" atm, which aren't probably anyhow more accurate than the Roman names.

Baghdad duchy should also probably be renamed to Duchy of Assyria (also a roman province), the other would be Mesopotamia, but we have a kingdom name for that.

I would probably prefer Hijaz, as it makes just about as much sense as "Arabia" for the kingdom; if the western Christians can use a latinized name based on a local one, they could probably do it for another.

Two things. Firstly, Hejaz/Hijaz wasn't a name used by Europeans before modern era, even though they knew about the place. Secondly, Arabia was a name used by Romans already for the peninsula, so it had well established itself as a name by CK era.
