Is there any reason at all to claim throne on a state that has a weak heir, when we are not in the same dynasty? The diplomacy screen says that I will be able to force a PU in a peace deal since I claimed their throne, but this is obviously not true..

They somewhat recently changed it where without being in the same dynasty you cannot force PU in a peace deal.

To my knowledge, claiming the throne while not in the same dynasty WILL cause a PU if their leader dies with no legal heir. (weak ones which allow you to claim, will not give you the PU. Only NO legal heir works.)
And if multiple countries have claims, then you get a war of succession.

Claiming can still be useful, it mostly just comes down to chance on if they get a new heir before the leader dies.

Be sure to keep prestige in mind. You need to be higher than the country you claimed.

There is this 0,01% chance that the heir dies and you will inherit the throne. Other than that, nope, I never got a casus belli, but I think that you would get one if someone with a weak claim or another country took the throne. I just to do it pretty often when I saw to option appear, but I have learned that between 1.0 and 1.4 it has been completely useless (not once have I gotten a PU, PU is purely luck based in my experience) and will only cost you prestige and opinion. Don't do it.
