CKIII Dev Diary #29 - Even the Smallest Decision...

CKIII Dev Diary #29 - Even the Smallest Decision...

  • Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.

    Real Strategy Requires Cunning

This thread is more than 5 months old.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

This all looks amazing.

My one thought is.

Are women / men who you find in the wilds still going to die rather quickly?

In CK2 they didn't die quickly ALL of the time or even like consistently. But you could definitely sense there was some bit of code in there that caused them to die a bit earlier, simply to balance out the random finding of good spouses in the wild.

I'm a little concerned that the hunt cool down is now 5 years. But to be honest the rest of the content available for peace time looks so much more fleshed out and there as compared to CK2, that I don't think it's going to be a big deal.

I feel like there is naturally just going to be so much more to do in CK3 that you aren't going to need to hunt as often as you did in CK2.

Rulers are offered to convert to the faith of the reformer, and all main branches of Christianity that were considered Ecumenical are considered heresies from there on out.
Does that mean that you can Mend the Schism from any branch that has the Ecumenical doctrine and not just the Orthodox?

What is the extent of "Unite Africa"? There are a few vastly different cultural regions. Is this similar to Unite India from CK2? I suppose this is so we don't get the thing we often do in CK2 where there's a super Kanem-Bornu or super Mali or super Abyssinia that just.... stay at that level despite clearly being well beyond that.

Can we please have this checkbox to enable alerts in the decisions list?
Intead of having to open each decision every time.
You could make them visible only on hover-over if you want a cleaner interface. Would also be nice to have Enable/Disable All buttons.
This feels like a step backwards from CK2.

I'm interested in "Dynasty of Many Crowns".

I assume (obviously) that this is a goal to set up rulers around the world that are in your dynasty (could be via marriage, conquest, etc)

defender of faith looks like an interesting decision
hope this means no more warrior lodge
was hoping for more minor decisions to help player actively trigger event chains instead of waiting 20 years

It looks great, and I like the fact the there's a hierarchy on decisions.

However, I'm deeply worried that there's no "present Débutante" and "Invite Noble to Court" features. This option was extremely useful when there's a lack of available characters (from your same culture and religion) to marry or give titles. Will you consider having an option similar as this core feature of CK2?

I'm afraid this could lead to a similar disaster as Imperator, where you can reach moments in which there's no available character either for marrying or to appoint to offices.

If I may make a suggestion, since Byzantium/Rome doesn't have a tradition of knights, the name should be veterans. In the classical roman empire, Evocati were looked up to very highly by the Romans, with military commanders doing everything they can to recruit the veterans into the legions. This practice continued into the medieval era, with the Emperors looking to promote veterans into the Tagmata.

I still think that convertimg and, even more, adopting a new culture, should be the outcome of a (rather unpredictable in its outcome) chain of events rather than just a one-off decision.

I hope that the decision activates the chain of events, and not just a "pay the price-gain new culture" thing.

Will this decision allow quartering for 2-4 of the CoA's belonging to the custom kingdom's constituent duchies - similar to how cadet branches work, as was discussed in the previous dev diary:
Emergent cadet houses differentiate their new arms by quartering, and yes, England's coat of arms will change if William wins the Norman Invasion.
The event/decision image suggest that it might be possible? In Karelia's case we could end up with a black bear on red background to the left, a bow on black background to the upper right and a red cross on white background in the lower right. Or maybe the player can choose two of their top tier titles for simple quartering, if more than two are too complicated to pull off. Just copying the CoA of the primary title is a bit dull (or shall we say CK2-ish?) and dynamic CoA's would make for much cooler realms.

Neat. :)
Two Question:
1.) For pilgrimages are you allowed to take your spouse and/or your children along?
2.) Do religion specific festivals exist? Things like Ramadan, Easter, and so on?
1. It is a journey you must undertake without your family, but you might bump into other characters of your faith on the journey!
2. No system for such festivals are going to be in the game on release, but it would be great if we could add it further down the line
