Before I get too much into the idea I had, I want to point out I am by no means whatsoever an expert on the topic of modding. I'm simply putting out my thoughts so that more experienced people in the community can give their opinions on them.

CKII is an incredible game, this is something I think we can all agree on. The only thing that I thought it lacked would be more hands on battles and things like that. I got the idea of a mod that could potentially give you the option to fight a battle through a Total War game. It would have different units based upon what type of units made up both armies, and it would scale both sides based upon the size of both armies.

Would something like this be possible?

No, the game does not have the functionality to launch an external application and export data for it to determine what to do and then import the results and apply it in game.

I'm pretty sure that there's a mod for EUIV that fires an event whenever a battle starts, and from there you can switch to TW (whatever game is most fitting for the point in EUIV), fight a custom battle based on your units and the enemies' in EUIV, and then, back in EUIV, choose whatever option reflects the battle outcome in TW. It isn't perfect, and I haven't tried it as I don't own any TW games, but it seems to work.

As I said, the game cannot do that. You going in and making it yourself and roughly guessing your troops and then trying to modify the outcome of the battle by events with troops casualties can imitate it but what you asked is not possible. You cannot have the game get to a battle, pause, open up total war, set up a battle, play the battle, return to CK2 and have the results imported into it.

It may not be possible directly though conventional means. What if you could code a third party program that can detect when for example, a specific intrigue option is selected when in a battle? You'd have to manually activate it, but it could be possible?

On the grounds you don't have access to the source files, no.
As I have said multiple time, the game via modding is not capable of launching external tools from in game or importing the results of a third party tool automatically and calculating an outcome.

Indeed, and that's a pretty good thing, since it would be quite unsafe for mods to be able to launch external applications like that.

So you could definitely make a mod in ck2 that pops an event for every battle which stops the game and asks if you'd like to continue. You could then have a second event pop if you choose the realistic battle option which lets you select from various types of victories and defeat that remove troops from each army based which you select and end the battle instantly.

I think you can even have the first event return the troop types from both sides and recommend a comparison in your fav total war game/mod so you can really recreate your battle but it'd be a lot more work.

Tbh you're better off pausing on every big battle in your game and just reading the troop types on both sides then play your recreation then just use a comm and to win the fight/kill their stack.
