Think I might have to startover, currently 1142 and getting CTD's every few months for no apparent reason.

Currently doing an invasion of France because they and Genoa have blocked me from the finishing goals. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/884104767770333680/87E1C495F3E7A551706326DBDE8395DF43FBAC2D/

Should have enough to form the Empire once the war is over, or very close to it. Hardest part is going to be pushing Genoa out of Iberia. Duchy of Algarve is my vassal republic.

Just for clarification on 3 foreign kingdoms requirement, do they need to be independant? For example, Aragon, Navarra and Castille would count to the total? Galicia and Leon are excluded, since they must be controlled by you? You can grant independance to meet the goal requirements anyway. Assuming I can keep playing with these ctd's...

I'm pretty sure I managed to fail miserably at this one (at least for speed). I messed it up because I was having a lot fun playing with the Muslim mechanics for the first time and wasn't thinking ahead to needing to be Christian by the end. Now I have the dual challenge of 1) getting a Christian on my throne and 2) keeping them there long enough for the HRE to be at peace so I can usurp the title Kingdom of Jerusalem. I've had all of de jure Jerusalem since 1122, finished the four duchies in 1143, managed to get my awesome King killed in a battle, even managed to win the succession rebellion against my Christian son thanks to blowing ~1000 gold on mercenaries to fight ALL of my Muslim Emirs. Really nothing I could do about every courtier in my court having -100 relations though. Got assassinated after a couple years while the @#$@^ Kaiser was fighting a long drug out embargo war against Pisa. @_@. Now I'm just trying to revoke all my Muslim vassals and replace them with Christians so my next Christian son can inherit before the Il-Khanate shows up. So, bit of advice, don't let the First Crusade beat the Fatimids. It's way easier to 'Create' the Kingdom of Jerusalem than to 'Usurp' it. You only need a Christian on the throne for one day that way. =P

EDIT: Well, it's not THAT bad. Il-Khanate is probably an exaggeration. I'm guessing that I'm looking at an ~1180s finish if everything works out this time. Raising ALL my kids as Christians and replacing all my dukes ought to do it. If I can get the current Sultan to die reasonably early.

How did you achieve this? o_O

Did the other Muslims not help them? I just took Beja (1101), and completely deminished 2 mercenary groups to achieve it.

The Aftasids were also caught up in the Leonese holy war for Leon, which had pretty much every Muslim and Christian power in it. No one bothered to stop me, think I only needed one small merc company at the end.

If they are all independent, then yes, Castille, Navarra, and Aragon would fulfill the requirement.

If you give, say, the duke of Castille the kingdom of Galicia without somehow losing the territory of Galicia, then that would also count.

@birdboy2000- Well done! First one done with that challenge.

Finally got it... 23 June 1173... better than I was expecting, still probably not good enough. I made a LOT of mistakes.

4 Duchies are Arabia, Baghdad, Mosul, and Edessa.

Got lucky. For some reason the latest Kaiser was imprisoned by one of his vassals and was kept in prison for about 30 years. So he couldn't declare any wars. As soon as my Sultan died, I jumped on the Usurp button. Haha.

The end of the game was very odd. Since Muslims get free revocation of Emirs, I revoked all of them and made a handful of Levantine Catholic Super-Dukes. Had low crown authority so the original Emirs pretty much all declared wars to get their titles back, but the Catholic guys had a crazy web of Alliances. Within 20 years they revoked all the Shia shieks, replaced them with Catholic guys and converted about half the provinces in the Empire to Catholicism. It was brutal to watch. By the time my second Catholic ruler took the throne, nobody wanted to oppose him.

I'm at about 1125 now on the Yousifid challenge, just waiting for the Seljuks' ruler to die and the Fatimids to get hit by their inevitable decadence revolt (they're rocking like +1% monthly) to get the last county for Sinai and Baghdad. Ahh, this is painful.

I'm in the Early stages of my Yousifid Challenge. It is a better start than I remembered.(Even though I have gameovered twice due to lack of male heir. I played it when SOI first came out. The Starting Emir was older and SUNNI. Which is why Caliph always came trolling me for titles.(I tended to spend ALOT of time in the dungeon) I guess more research was done and it was made easier.......

OMG that what have I done..

Nice one. I'm rather amused by the catch and release for kingdoms. Here I would have been trying to marry and press claims... my usual play style doesn't work so well for speed runs. This competition style of play is really forcing me to open my mind.

Are you guys just using all your money for mercs so you can conquer really fast? And breaking truces? I was thinking last night in my Yousifid game I was hurting my time by building up my holdings and honoring truces. It's not like the prestige hit matters for this.

I just posted a start in the 'Why You Should Play As' thread that might be interesting for a challenge game:

1195 - Llywelyn the Great, Duke of Gwynedd. Stay independent. Form Kingdom of Wales. Conquer England. Make all of England Welsh culture or something. Probably would need a few more goals.

Maybe too easy, I haven't played it yet.

Do not know if this counts as using the console - but I console killed a final living member of a patrician family (game no longer crashes).

What were the effects?

Pros - I can continue playing the game.

Cons - One of the minor families in my vassal republic is replaced with another one(family had no holdings). He was going to die to an assassination attempt anyway...Assassination of final family member of a patrician family, results in the game having a ctd.

Catch and release? They are my vassals now, waiting for negative bonuses to disappear and I will be invincible. Currently at 26k vassal troops and 13k allowed retinues.

Biggest problem is press the claim for Granada and I have 80% of Hispania, the only problem is the 80% is not actually 80%, but 79.6%. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/884104767779067705/B02247F097F896BF2178A9B4F3F1F46E2AA6EC51/ Can't create a kingdom to use de jure claims, so have to fabricate or wait for a vassal to finish this damn game. Although Kingdom of Navarra inherittance is on the cards.

Never break truces ever. Mercs are used heavily, use cash to get your holdings to max cash flow and slowly upgrade your capital. Try to keep enough cash to buy 2 merc groups at all times, sometimes it isn't possible but one can usually finish wars off quickly for you.

Also I am not playing for speed on this play through, just succeeding before the game explodes.

I meant conquering them, giving the title to your family members, and then releasing them at the end so you have 'your dynasty ruling 3 independent kingdoms' or whatever. As opposed to putting your family onto the throne the harder way of pressing claims or getting someone to inherit. That's a neat idea.

I had a bit of time to kill this evening, so I went ahead and played the Portugal start. I must have gotten really lucky. The guy who rebelled was my son-in-law. Neither one of us had enough troops to siege any castles, so I just murdered his levies when he raised them and waited on war score. Divorced my wife and married a 16 year old daughter of William the Conqueror (playing December start). Revoked and executed the son-in-law after he surrendered. Matrimarried daughter to a Prince of Denmark. Revoked all the other counties. Took me 10 years, but I have a pretty 18 year old wife, a son, alliances with 2 kings (not that I can use them), and all 4 counties in Portugal. The main problem I had was the Muslims to the south Holy Waring me while the freaking Jimena's were busy slaughtering eachother for Leon. Was able to use the money from the weddings to hire mercs though.

Had issues getting piety to create the Empire title, could of done with previous ruler but realised he was 61(died 69) at the time, and gavelkind would of ruined all my hard work.

My heir is my strong daughter, married to my genius cousin.

So the Kingdom is secure for many years to come.

Well this was fun and annoying at the same time, which is.....good. I think i've done everything for the muslum challange, except for the conversion to Christian, not sure how to do that other than....waiting a long time for people to die.

I expanded quickly in the begining, taking those two independant sunni states, and eating bits of the sejurks when then had wars.
soon i had most of mosul, bagdahd, triopoli and the kingdom of syria.

Tryed to gain independance from eygpt whilst they where at war with byzantine empire, errr but i got crushed.thought i wasnt going to get any further but had a genius idea, declare war on the byzantine's instead, who where actually winning their war. managed to get antioch. ... then cyprus

declared war on HRE and annexed jerusalum.. the end...
