As you can see Konstantios (the fifth child of Konstantinos X) is his heir, even though the first (Michael) and third (Andronikos) children are male.
I suppose that Michael should be the one to succeed his father.
Cheers

It's because the elder sons were born before he became Emperor, and are therefore not 'Born in the Purple' -- this is WAD.

THANX for clarifying that.
BUT from what I know this game rule seems completely unhistorical.
If I remember correct 'Born in the Purple' was just something that gave them high prestige, not priority to the throne.
Mind that Michael was the only child of Konstantinos X to ascend to the throne (after the Battle of Manzikert, as Michael VII).
Anyway, since it is WAD I suppose that the mods should take a look at it.
:)

It is possible to make an older, not purple-born son (e.g. Michael) heir by giving him the "Despot" minor title. It actually gives the Byzantines better control over who inherits the throne.

Its totally historical you can even find the info from wikipedia.

The concept derives from the Roman Imperial and Byzantine concept of Porphyrogenitos under which children born to reigning emperors held superior rights to the throne over siblings born before their father ascended the imperial throne
