Will CK3 be decently fleshed out at release? I haven’t been following the DDs.

What I mean is... launch CK2 with all DLCs off. Now launch it with the DLCs on. See the difference? Well how can you not. Basically, does CK3 need like two years worth of DLCs to be decent?

I get that they want to leave some room for DLCs like nomads, republics, etc. But locking Judaism or Islam or Germanic until like the third DLC focuses on it? That means (at least to me) the game isn’t released until the third DLC. And I know they are available from the start, but will they be fleshed out or do we need a DLC for them still?

Wowsers! You're really behind. I suggest taking the time to read the 38 DDs and the introductory series on PDX's Grand Startegy channel to decide for yourself.

I, nor anyone else for that matter, CANNOT say how complete the game'll feel to you, because I am not you. This last paragraph goes out to everyone else, who has already posted or has yet to post such a thread as this.

Where have you heard that they're locking religions out until future DLC? The CK3 FAQ clearly says the exact opposite.

About as fleshed out as everything else will be due to the nature of fairly dynamic religion and culture systems in place.
Really, read the dev diaries on them they're great.

He knows that, he is just wondering how fleshed out they will.

This. I know Islam is in (which was DLC Religion in CK2), Germanic is in (also DLC in CK2), etc. But you know... if they keep Islam unlocked from the get go and then they add Hajj, Ramadan, Jihad, special titles for Muslims, etc (all the minor things that make playing in Middle East different from playing in HRE for example) via a DLC... Then technically they kept their promise but we still didn’t get what we want.

Who is this "we" you're talking about, and what do they want?

I find this sentence confusing.

We could really use a "confused" reaction option among the other 6.

Regarding the uniqueness of the various religions/cultures: they definately will be unique enough with their own flavour events, decisions and mechanics et cetera - why else would they make every region playable from launch?

If Paradox don't incentivise players to play with different characters from different regions around Afroeurasia through the inclusion of sufficient amounts of flavour for those regions, then what is the point behind expanding the in-game map? It would be beyond counterproductive!

I suggest you read the dev diaries to find out what's in the game before you make huge assumptions like this.

Read the religion dev diaries.

Most, if not all of the religions will have far greater depth than they did in CK2. In addition there are more varieties of each religion (so there are more small branches, rather than huge monolithic blocks).
You can also sort of reform even organised faiths by creating your own (given enough piety) with your own choice of tenets and doctrines.

Some things *are* going to need to wait for later patches or DLC. Shared heads of faith just aren't going to be in, because of technical difficulties with implementing it, and we won't have religious councils. If I remember correctly religion specific feasts are temporarily out.

On the upside, Pilgrimages in general are available to any religion with the right trait. So are "Crusades". There is a lot more nuance between faiths as well, as not all fathss get exactly the same thing from pilgrimages, depending on the specific traits the faiths have.

I always ask myself "Would waiting x number of months for enhancement XYZ be worth not playing the game at all during that time?". Usually the answer is no, and in this case for a game I'm particularly excited about it is a resounding NO.

Everyone is going to be different, do your research and get a feel for your personal preferences. I don't like to go solely off of other people telling me what they like and don't like since everyone plays the game with their own style.

I’m sorry, but I burned myself before with other Paradox games... I’ll just read the 38 dev diaries.

Just read the FAQ. It does a great job of summarizing the DDs, as well as questions people asked about those DDs. I read through the whole thing in 3 days with a lot of breaks, so it's not hard to get through.

I mean, no need to read all the 38. Just look at the titles and see what you are curious about. Or to the faq and ctrl+f key words.

Not all Dev Diaries are of great Importance. There I agree.

The ones that could be interesting for major changes are:
  • Dev Diary 20 and 21 for religous changes and also 23 for holy orders and 24 for heresies
  • Dev Diaries 9 and 11-15 for the skill trees
  • Dev Diary 1 and 38 for dynasties
  • Dev Diary 27 for cultures
  • Dev Diary 7 for portraits 34 for a final glimpse on portraits
  • Dev Diary 32 for Audio
  • Dev Diary 33 for the overhaul in law (they overhauled the original laws of Dev Diary 17)
  • Dev Diary 25 for the map.

Some things didn't change. Also the stream of the producers could be interesting. It is not the most informative but we see some interesting glimpses.

Maybe check One Proud Bavarian series about CK3 on youtube. It is very informative.

My enjoyment of his videos both rose and fell in different ways once I noticed that he sounds like Dr. Lipschitz in Suits. :)

Don't buy it on release, unless the areas it focuses on at release (France, hre, and England) are ones you badly want to play. India, Islam, steppe nomads will all suffer far less content than before

Don't buy it on release, unless the areas it focuses on at release (France, hre, and England) are ones you badly want to play. India, Islam, steppe nomads will all suffer far less content than before
I wouldn't even include England.

You've got two start dates, both Saxon and both in which England is doomed to fail. Neither have interesting historical vassals from the feudal era.

If there was an 1187 (or even 1081) scenario I'd say England would be fun, but at release I don't think it will be. It's just going to be a stomping ground for whoever starts off invading it.

In non iron-man games you can land the interesting courtiers and then swap to play as them via console or reload. 867 isn't doomed, once the event stacks are gone the vikings are boned
