Since I only applied Elective to duchies till now, can you tell me about the bug?

There are several bugs related to elective succession. Here are some of the ones that have been reported (there are many more bug reports related to elective succession):
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/ck-iii-empire-breaks-elective-succession.1448224/
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ely-distributes-titles-to-wrong-heir.1512645/
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...son-not-eligible-for-feudal-elective.1510709/

And one of the stated reasons for these not being a higher priority is due to elective succession not being used much ( https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...aks-elective-succession.1448224/post-27741974 ) which is likely at least partly due to its use being discouraged due to said bugs (I at least know that I tend to avoid it these days due to them).

I avoid using Elective systems like the plague, but it's nothing to do with bugs.

It's to do with "instead of electing my reasonably competent son they elected my idiot one-county uncle, and now I have to play a one-county king while my son and all of my previous counties are placed in the hands of the AI".

Nice, the ai has been taught player strats of weak kings

I don't mind them electing him.

I mind having to play him, when all my actual land is going to my son.

At least that's an ironman problem only. In normal games you can change characters.

But yes, sometimes it bothers me too that you're always forced to play with the heir of your primary title. It's kind of paradox (no pun intended) that on the one hand you are forced to switch branches of your dynasty in such cases instead of following your own but on the other hand still face a game over if your branch dies out although other branches of your dynasty are still landed...
