There are a sht ton of bugs reported.
From my completely subjective and personal experience, CK3 is currently in the most unstable state since its release. The funny thing - instead of a single egregious bug that everyone can rally around with torches and pitchforks, there are only minor bugs here and there. But there are lots of them. An ungodly amount lurking in almost every game system, some even re-breaking things that were already fixed. They won't ruin your playthrough. They will just slowly (but steady) suck all the joy from it - it is hard to play more than a few in-game years without encountering an irritating bug.

And it irks even more because the 1.4.4 version was one of the most mature and polished patches in the recent studio record. There were some unfinished issues (*cough, cough* holy orders and religious warfare), but it was leagues ahead of the spaghetti scripting fiesta we have currently.

I feel bad for the developers, cause (apart from the controversial focus and pricing) The Royal Court added at least a few really cool gameplay elements (if you already enjoy the vanilla CK3 design, that is). But it really seems to be rushed and made under intense pressure. Has the remote work taken its toll? Did they spend too much time hacking together the 3D scenes in an inappropriate engine? Were the large bulk of freshly hired team members forced to quickly produce business value without proper onboarding, resulting in a lack of coordination and cohesion? We will probably never learn.

I know that the developers started to avoid these forums due to sudden outbursts of toxicity targeted at them that tend to happen in certain threads. I don't want to criticise their work (because I love a large part of it) or question their competence (because they have proven many times that they are able to produce quality game content). But it is hard to enjoy a product that screams "warning! premature release of an unfinished build!" from every single corner.

They won't ruin your playthrough.
I thing I've noticed that is potentially game ruining is that traits, of all kinds and not just the ones encouraged by the new traditions, appear way more often and include things like four years getting gout or become in a witch in public.

Has the remote work taken its toll?
They have explicitly said this, in I believe One Proud Bavarian's review of the DLC.

Did they spend too much time hacking together the 3D scenes in an inappropriate engine?
They also said that the 3D court was the most complex things they've worked on for the franchise and stated that difficulties they were having with it was one of the reasons for the delay.

Howdy all,

Friendly Local Community Manager here to inform everyone of news and keep you all up to date in the dealings of the Dev Team.

We are currently working very hard to make sure that the feedback, suggestions, and any problems that you fine folk have reported are being processed and put to the best use!

With that in mind, we are not going to have a Dev Diary this week or most likely next week.

WE ARE AIMING TO HAVE A DEV DIARY FOR YOU MID-MARCH IF ALL GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN!

If you have any questions or would like to post something further, please do not hesitate to post in the proper Sub-Forums and we will be more than happy to investigate and work on!

In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying Royal Court as much as we are.

Will there be any bug fixes before the dev diary, @PDX_Pariah ? :)

Are there any hotfixes required? Have they even talked about an upcoming patch? As i read it most complaints are more about the too graphics focused content of Royal Court

I've subjectively found this expansion release to be pretty smooth with no major bugs, but I only now realized that councillor events seem to have completely disappeared and that should probably be fixed ASAP.

And we're only hearing about the stuff we know about; what else is not working in the background?

Another bug I've seen crop up a lot on Reddit is some children fail to convert their childhood trait into an education trait. No mods are apparently involved. I believe there's a bunch of events that simply aren't getting called correctly, and now Paradox has to track them all down.

That's honestly pretty hard to believe, because those traits have a maximum age limit, meaning that in a game without mods, the trait will automatically disappear at age 16 or higher.
I could believe there's no modding involved if the adult had neither an education trait nor a childhood trait. I wouldn't be surprised if the people in question modded the game files directly and forgot about it.

But otherwise, yeah, there's a ton of bugs, just look at your error log after playing, it can get pretty big. Especially if you have a royal court.

Oh okay, I thought it was an event that is supposed to fire that converts the childhood trait into an education trait, which knowing about events failing to fire for councillors, it got me thinking maybe the two were related if we're seeing a bunch of events failing to get called up.

It might also be some kind of save incompatibility thing. In CK2, traits would get swapped around when using outdated saves on updated games, although I'm thinking Paradox fixed that in CK3.

You're right about the fact that there is an event that gives the education trait and removes all traits and modifiers related to childhood, actually.
It's just that the childhood traits work in such a way that they can't be present on characters that are less than 3 years old or more than 16 15 years old. So a 17 years old with a childhood trait is basically a guarantee of some modded file.

I just tested this again, by lowering the maximum age limit to 11 years old (using a mod), and all children that were 12 years old or older lost the trait as soon as I loaded the save.

i would've thought the same, but i dont think that will happen. the patch in march better be huge, fixing a ton of bugs alongside other improvements. this is actually ridiculous. 5 weeks to fix bugs/post dlc patch? (if it goes according to plan)

I think it will be a slightly larger patch, with grandeur and artifacts rebalance, QoL UI improvements, and so on. I also bet that the mid-march dev diary will be the first one of the small DD series and the actual patch will be released in April. They stated some time ago that having fewer (but bigger) patches is the preferred model for CK3 because of internal management issues. May have something to do with worker mistreatment allegations - having to release something twice per month can be really taxing for the mental health in the long run.

and that release schedule would be perfectly fine pre dlc. but the dlc caused a lot of problems. the reason i quit pre dlc was because i mentally couldnt play another campaign knowing how much the culture system would improve all of them as well as the rest of royal court.

but now there are lots of bugs and the game is in a worse state bug wise than pre dlc. i dont want to waste my initial experience and discovery of the new dlc & its mechanic when the game is in such a state. i also think there will be grandeur & artifact rebalance. i also hope they will rebalance presige gain, as the prestige changes heavily affected tribals while not so much fuedal (especially kings+) as they have access to all the new ways to get prestige.

i wouldnt want twice a month if it would potentionally corrupt my save anyway, but in this case after a big dlc and the game itself has more problems now than pre dlc, it needs to be hotfixed and then they can do their normal schedule again.

The single bigger patches instead of smaller hotfixes is fine if we're not talking about major bugs. 1.5 introduced several major bugs that can not be held off and should be fixed as soon as the fix is ready, even if that means a small hotfix every few days. Game breaking bugs are a lot different then tweaking and balancing something. As it stands right now, the game is playable but not at it's full extent because of the various bugs. They need fixing now, not in a month.

All I can speak for is the council events bug which was fixed in hours of it's discovery by modders. For me, this is enough to make me shelf the game, and even more so when it took a single modder a couple of hours to find and fix the bug. There is NO reason, not a single one, why Paradox couldn't have had this fixed in the last patch or at any point since then. To me, it shows a complete lack of care on Paradox's side in ensure the game is working as intended and a lack of priority to get the game working as intended in a reasonable time frame.
