The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.
It is about making the game easier to understand for beginners too. We old fans can't stay too conservative, adapt or die. This guy gets it.
WASD is for shooters and top down RPGs, and those keys are better served as shortcuts.
At least be able to let us rebind them.
Edge scrolling is a setting that can be toggled.WASD is amazing. Now if you could just add the option to disable edge scrolling for those of us with real monitors that play the game at high resolution... but still in a window, while watching Netflix on our 4K ultra-HD 32" desktop monitor.
What is Edge scrolling? And what makes it either good or bad?Edge scrolling is a setting that can be toggled.
I completely disagree, it is a nice feature especially for new players. Anyway, why not have a classic control setting and a new setting, pleasing both old fans and making it more accesible to newer players.View attachment 550256
Whoever decided this was a good idea needs a right good slap. W is the political mapmode.... not moving around the damn map. This ain't a first person shooter >.<
It is also a feature I rationally hate in Imperator.
It's basically having the option to put your cursor on the edge of your screen and the map then scrolls to the edge your mouse is pointed. What is Edge scrolling? And what makes it either good or bad?
Edge scrolling is the behavior of panning the camera around the map when the mouse cursor is close to the edge of the game window. If disabled, the camera will no longer pan when the cursor hits or is close to the edge. Some players wish to disable edge scrolling when playing in windowed mode or when using multiple monitors, as they often tend to move the mouse cursor outside the game window yet do not want the camera to pan when doing so.What is Edge scrolling? And what makes it either good or bad?
That's a great idea! Make a Game Rule so us Old Farts can use our precious W like we're used to without shafting the newbies...I completely disagree, it is a nice feature especially for new players. I am a veteran but I do love using WASD though xD
I've playing CK2 since release, and every now and then I find myself trying to scroll the map using WASD. It's intuitive, I guess. Using the direction arrows is impractical and uncomfortable, since they're to the other side of the keyboard from the left hand. This ain't a first person shooter
Using a Game Rule for a UI setting? That's a bit silly. That's a great idea! Make a Game Rule so us Old Farts can use our precious W like we're used to without shafting the newbies...
As long as there is a way to give players freedom of choice...Using a Game Rule for a UI setting? That's a bit silly.
Being able to switch keybinds would be a lovely solution, but may not have been planned for when developing CK3. I can live with that decision, so long as some keys exist that let us switch mapmodes. Please don't tell me this useful CK2 feature got axed in favor of WASD movement!
Is hot reloading something we'll be able to do once the game is launched? Would make creating mods a hell of a lot easier to testOne of the technical problems I ran into was the hot reloading of files crashing the game now, in our debug builds we attach file watchers to all game files so if you change the values of a trait or add a new building type then the game will update its databases internally and update or add those new things. But the problem with that is the Encyclopedia was pointing now to the invalid memory of the old entries we had deleted, the solution to this was adding reload callbacks to fix up the encyclopedia by flushing out its old data and regenerating it, internally this just means that the encyclopedia instead has to register a bunch of page generators that it can re-run instead of using the actual database objects which can get corrupted if modified and the pointers invalidated.
Oh having the ability to toggle between is obviously the best option all around. But having ONLY WASD is just awful.I completely disagree, it is a nice feature especially for new players. Anyway, why not have a classic control setting and a new setting, pleasing both old fans and making it more accesible to newer players.

I don't use the arrow keys, I use the only quantifiably objectively superior method: Middle Mouse Click and Drag.I've playing CK2 since release, and every now and then I find myself trying to scroll the map using WASD. It's intuitive, I guess. Using the direction arrows is impractical and uncomfortable, since they're to the other side of the keyboard from the left hand.
I agree, I wonder if because the barony will be placed on the map the county density will get down. I'd like ck3 to have the same county density than in ck2. It will fell like a drawback if not.Looking at Ireland on the screenshot I count 12 counties with perhaps 1 or 2 obscured by the tutorial window. Is province count also still under development. I'd be a bit disappointed if CK3 starts with the province density CK2 had at launch. I've gotten used to 19-county Ireland, I don't wanna go back to 13.
Im worried about whole map. CK3 adverises it has 4 times bigger map and territorialy it might be, but actually it has less conquerable provinces what mean less action and less playability.Looking at Ireland on the screenshot I count 12 counties with perhaps 1 or 2 obscured by the tutorial window.
