I better try to get back into CK2, it's one my favorite games ever and the only way to play is with CK2+ for me.
I remember the days when Vanilla was silly, right after Sword of Islam where Muslims could invade Iceland because it was there.

So, if there is a new version that is not save compatibile, I have to unsubscribe this mod on steam and then subscribe again, or I just have to start a new game ?

no, that would just download the same version again. steam auto updates, you don't have to do anything regardless of save-compatibility.
however, if you want to continue an older game, unsubscribe from steam, and manually download the version you need.

So is the whole gaining a new title and losing matrilineal marriage thing something that was fixed in 4.03.1 considering the notes said that when you start as Agnatic-Cognatic that you have the ability to marry matrilineally and not just when you switch to it? Using 4.03, I had the ability at the start when I was Agnatic-Cognatic and I'm assuming I lost it when I gained a county that wasn't. I'm just wondering if I restart my game if the same thing will happen to me or if I should wait for the next update? I'm assuming that my current game has no way of getting back the matrilineal marriage option since it bugged out and got removed when it wasn't supposed to.

Currently my assumption is that gaining a new primary title will mean you lose the matrilineal marriage setting. It's easy enough to fix, as it's essentially just a binary setting on one's primary title, but currently it's more of a matter of knowing when it is and isn't set. The bug is fixed in the dev build, but if you like you can use the following decision to fix it -- just throw this file in your decision folder, enact the decision, and that should fix it if your matrilineal marriage setting has been turned off.

Is it safe to go back in the water?

I have heard so many complaints about the new coalition system that I have been deterred from playing.

Has this mechanic been toned down yet?

In my opinion, game is perfectly fine, defensive pacts and thread have minor impact on the game, they just preventing from conquering the world in one war. :) Other stuff from Conclave like new council mechanics are quite good and make internal politics more interesting and challanging.

Hey, just checking. Is Roger de Hauteville (The guy in Messaine) supposed to be independent at the 1066 start? Because it lists him as one of Robert de Hauteville's vassals in the start screen, but ingame he's independent.

No idea who you're talking about, or where "Messaine" might be. I don't notice anyone independent who shouldn't be, at a glance.

I don't know how people have threat issues in vanillia, unless you're playing as Charlie or the mongols. With the mongols, just grant vassal khans independance as you sweep through Persia/Anatolia, then continue to leapfrog your way through Europe.

Playing as a count through king, I'll get a wishy-washy coalition against me for a few months after a conquest. If I inherit a big realm, I'm busied with internal politics or a revolt or two, which lets threat decay.

This is the first time playing the mod. So I start a game as the Duke of Proverence during the Crusader Era. I think the mod is rubbish. Constant bothering of coronation events outside the realm. Obligation laws not being obligation laws (as they increase max levy instead of min levy so what's the point?), even more annoying vassals and vassals can apparently opt out of giving both levy and tax without reprecaussions. Some of the opinion penalties are just way too high and stacks as well. Also alot of vassals are simply way too rebellious and for the wrong reasons, like forcing the top liege to give up their demense for no reason whatsoever. That weakens the realm and ruin things for everyone for the sake of the self interest of one faction member. The other faction members should be allowed to vote on the issue instead before it's presented.

And what's with the opinion penalties? -20 for child, -10 for teenager, -15 for short reign... As well as incredibly high child death, and death in general makes for a great achievement to keep a bloodline actually going.

I like many of the features, such as coronations, the ambitions, the faction system in theory (but in practice it falls flat on its face), some of the crown laws. But honestly; you need to balance this mess! Lower the penalties, rework the AI a little maybe. An ambitious person doesn't always consider their liege a problem, when they can expand inside the realm of a liege, and use the liege as a shield to deter would-be threats from reconquering the land.

I'm going to try one more time with the mod, but it looks like this mod isn't for me.

Coronation events outside of the realm being news would have been common. going to them also would of been common as Nobles like to keep in touch with other nobles. Also you can not expect people to respect you if you are a child or a teenager or had a short reign.. And that is simply because well why would you respect a short reign king... Or Queen you hardly know them. Why would you respect a child on a throne.. They are weak.. A teenager is also weak and people are looking for a chance to take control. Rebellious Vassals are common place.. You can not expect everyone to be happy with your rule.. Some Vassals want to take the throne for themselves. high death rate was common during this time..Not many Kids made it to adulthood and if they they it was considered a achievement on its own.

Vassals in general fear their liege and they do not want to him or her to have too much power.. So how do you prevent your liege from getting too much power you make him or give give up some personal land.. Keep him or her in check. As for your point of Ambitious people.. No King or Queen would be happy with someone with Ambitions because that person could easily turn on their king or queen and take power... Ambitions must be kept in check and hence why they are a problem.. someone with a ambition are a threat to the realm in more ways than one.

The faction system is great... it is better than Vanillas as it is another way to keep lieges in check,,, And besides factions have their own agendas...You just do not know about them.

Probably just not the mod for you then

I'm perfectly fine with someone saying "I guess this isn't the mod for me". It is indeed not for everyone.

Less okay with someone starting off their commentary with "I think the mod is rubbish", though. I mean, really -- what kind of response do you expect with that? I'd suggest perhaps asking questions to understand your issues and figure out ways to work around them, if you're really interested in trying.

I play CK2 only if there is CK2+.
Indeed.

In my opinion, game is perfectly fine, defensive pacts and thread have minor impact on the game, they just preventing from conquering the world in one war. :) Other stuff from Conclave like new council mechanics are quite good and make internal politics more interesting and challanging.
Thanks Black_Rider!

From what I'm reading, Paradox are still working on balancing the system, so I might wait until that has been completed before dipping my toes back in.

Saves the me "save game incompatible" heartache as well!
