@zeress anything we can do about this?

Not without rewriting the whole age mechanic, or entirely fleshing out Chalcedon in EU4. We could define Chalcedon as being a heresy of Catholicism for EU4's purpose, but I'm not sure if that would fix it. Would also force Chacledon to use Catholicism's icon, mechanics etc afaik too.

I'm going to try adding some Catholic minors, just as a test. Also having so many huge vassals makes for very exciting civil wars. Alternating attacks from each one. Also, the weird white province (Constantinople) Is Promethean, but is shown as non-religious. It is also inconvertable.

Promethean is probably missing from the EU4C table; fwiw it should be Hellenic in that scenario, as obviously Hellenic is the orthodoxy and that's how the converter would normally handle that.

Isn't Reform Desire in EUIV a universal value? The only thing that really ties it to Catholicism is that events that change it are set to fire only for Catholic rulers.

Granted, the only ways to take advantage of this involve doing quite a lot of work, so it's a moot point really...

I was under the impression that if the reformation never happened, the game would eventually skip over to the Age of Absolutism. Is this wrong?

In case I'm wrong, I can see two possible solutions. The easiest is to simply have Chalcedonian convert to Catholic. If you want more nuance, you can introduce a "clean-up" decision available after 1444 to convert all Chalcedonian provinces and characters to either Catholic or Orthodox, depending on if the church is Latin or Greek.

The other solution is unfortunately much more involved. You could edit the reformation-related files to let it work with both Catholic and Chalcedonian religions. This would mean editing all the relevant event, decision, and mission files and placing them into the converter, which as you would imagine would be a lot of work.

That's my understanding too. That entire age basically revolves around Catholicism and its reformation, which for obvious reasons doesn't apply to Chalcedonian. It could be made to do so, but that would be well outside what we'd do for the converter.

The converter can be set to make Chalcedon and Catholicism be heresies of each other, but that'd basically just be the same as making Chalcedon become Catholicism in all but name in-game.

Some strange progress, including much former hellenic lands turning buddhist. Ming is the big bad guy, as usual, though Inca has the largest military. This are rather weird. Aztecs are a Ming tributary.

So my Europe has this neat three-way schism of Christendom, with Paulicianism emerging as a third major faction largely by my hand. Paulicians have ruled at various times Byzantium, Sweden and duchies of the HRE, and of course my glorious Polish Empire.

But the really weird part? There's a Lollard community in Pohjanmaa and Sapmi since the 900's. Everyone in Europe is still getting the hang of this whole Middle Ages thing and this Mikael Agricola guy is already translating BIbles into Finnish.

Out of curiosity, when did the schism trigger?

4 September, 1064. However, there's some hijinks involved possibly. I started playing in the previous version 4.06.3, where the rite trait assignment was more random and for some reason the Greek rites had become vastly dominant for no apparent reason. After updating to 4.06.4, I used console commands to remove the Pope's Greek rites and replaced them with Latin rites to give Latin rites a fresh chance. The Schism appeared some years after that.

(and in case that's why asking, Lollardy in Sapmi predated both the Schism and my console trickery by about a century)
