So I've played my first CK2+ Continuation game (Revala dynasty, as Estonian Suomenusko who reformed the Finnic church) up to about 1020 and I think I have reason to take issue with this:
- Proselytizing outside your realm should now be more difficult.
- Factors like culture group, opinion of the liege who sent the missionary, MA and realm learning now play a bigger factor in the chance of success of converting foreign realms.
Now, on paper, this sounds good, especially the second bit, but in practice, I've noticed that conversion is now way too slow once again. What exactly did you intend the pace of conversion to be? I know that near the end of the Wiz era in CK2+, I tweaked the conversion chances a bit to make it faster, and I liked the result - with my tweaks, Christianity regularly overtook significant parts of the Norse and Slavic areas in the 1000s. That makes sense, since IRL both Russia and Scandinavia were largely converted to some sort of Christianity by the year 1000, and it forced pagans to convert, reform or die - which I think is an essential aspect of pagan gameplay. As it is now (and as it was before my tweaks) it seems to me that Christian converts are more of a curiosity than a growing threat. To take my example, the only major pagans that Christianised and stayed alive are Poland and Hungary. Denmark went Catholic for a few years but the king's heir was Norse and roughly 50 years later, Denmark is still Norse. Scandinavia proper has completely ignored the Catholic preaching. A few realms in the Russian steppe (a duchy or two, as well as the Pecheneg khanate) went Orthodox, but got swallowed by their neighbors in a few years. The major players of the region, aside from me and my Suomenusko allies, are a Baltic pagan Lithuania, two Slavic superduchies and a massive Khazar empire.
So yeah, I think the conversion rate is too slow again and I would suggest increasing the pace. One must take into account that just like the Danes in my example, not all pagans who go Christian stay Christian, and if only a few isolated realms convert, they are kind of doomed to fall to the pagan bloc again. Of course, since this was only one example I'll play more games and report on my findings.
(Also, I just decided to take a look at what exactly you changed and I found out that apparently, the base MTTH for the "chaplain has a chance to convert pagan lord" event was increased from 220 to an obscenely high 900. This and the modifiers together mean that mastermind theologian monarchs with a top-class court chaplain and a smart spouse will be able to convert similar cultures with a MTTH of around 90-100 months, which is reasonable. However, with only about 5 lower realm learning, the MTTH jumps to more than 200 months, which means that the chance will be quite low altogether and the average Joe missionary won't have much of a chance to gain converts. Considering that probably not everyone in Europe is proselytising at any given moment, this makes it understandable why conversion is slow once again and I'd recommend lowering the MTTH. I'm going to experiment with simply cutting the base MTTH to 450 as a start.)
