Just going to bring this up again in case Wiz hasn't seen it: I started a vanilla game, fully patched, with autosave on. I'm currently at 1400 with zero problems...other than sheer boredom because it can't compare to CK2+. ;c)

Are we absolutely sure this problem is occurring in Vanilla? Any chance it was a random, unconnected crash that Wiz experienced?

I guess it looks like this: The problem probably activates when the save file gets biger and is more advanced. Compared to small saves in vanilla game,CK2+ are huge, and much more complicated so the problem activates much more often compared to vanilla. So runing vanilla test games just to find the crash in the game makes no sense, because it will happen in 1 % of games, but its origins come from vanilla. So just have patience and wait for solution.

I haven't crashed yet, but I just started 1100 so maybe then. The vassal modifiers is broke as well, and the character finder doesn't even find characters (even though I typed my own character's name in). However, will your solution still work on Windows Vista?

I don't know if this is a solution or dumb luck. All I'm trying to get is a "fresh" load of CK2. Successive loads of the game make it load faster (a minute or so for the first load, vs a few seconds for successive reloads) and crash harder locking up my system.

Regardless, luck or this and the 4gig .exe solution got me to around 1140 when I've had to start reloading again and so much that the game has become unplayable. If your game is still "fast loading" after a restart, you can google clearing your ram cache for windows vista. That or just load enough browser tabs to fill your ram with other data.

The Burgundy and full levy issue did not happen again for me. The game played great, aside from some issues with ai armies getting "stuck." Especially, but not only in Mauritania relating to their island.

So if I understand it right: I'm on the previous patch right now and I shouldn't update until the crashes get fixed. Shame, because the latest updates (according to the changelog) are awesome and I really look forward to playing it when the game goes crash-free. In particular, I like the chance of a Horde-free game - historical or not, the Hordes are a pain in the ass and not fun to play with, against or beside (along with their broken mechanics). However, regarding that, I have a question. Is the Horde invasion a preset factor generated upon starting the game or is it randomly decided when it is time to generate them?

Linux is case sensitive, windows is not and there are some inconstistencies in CK2Plus files in regards to cases.
For example, file 1 references file "blahblah/Somefile.txt" but "Somefile.txt" is actually "somefile.txt", so everything crashes while the mod files are loading.

However, there's not a lot of files which have this error. Check out log.txt in your Paradox Interactive folder in Documents, it'll tell you which files are the problem, so just rename them accordingly.
Also, they're all referenced by the file /interface/settlements.gfx, so you need to change some paths there too.

After you do that, the game will start and as far as I can see everything's fine, although the log still says there's 2 files missing.

If Wiz can put that up in the FAQ or something, that would be great. I fixed my problem thanks to Dreilide's post. The main problems are with 2 folders. The Settlements/Moorish and Settlements/Hellene

I played a bit further, and I was able to become King of England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland through some careful maneuvering, but for some strange reason I have not been given the option to form any empires. I tried look up the solutions by going over this thread and others, but none has worked. In my desperation, I used the console to give myself the Empire of Britannia, but it quickly becomes forfeit a day later.

Am I glitching or is there something I missed?

Please note that I have four kingdoms and a realm size of over 250.

Volcanno, is this related to the memory leak that's crashing many people's games or is this something only for Linux users to do?

I'm on a PC, but thought I would ask in the hopes that it would fix my CK2+.....I'm jonesing man, I need my CK2+ fix...I can't make it through another week man, gonna need that CK fix
/has the shakes

This is just for the linux users. Linux is case sensitive, windows is not and there are some inconsistencies in CK2Plus files in regards to cases (as Dreilide pointed out couple of pages back). This has nothing to do with memory leaks.

Volcanno, is this related to the memory leak that's crashing many people's games or is this something only for Linux users to do?

I'm on a PC, but thought I would ask in the hopes that it would fix my CK2+.....I'm jonesing man, I need my CK2+ fix...I can't make it through another week man, gonna need that CK fix
/has the shakes

Lol, if you need to play that bad, just downgrade to the previous version of CK2, here's how:

then install the last version of CK2+ that was made before the patch, .15 I believe

I'm having a problem, where my CK2 instantly crashes whenever I have CK2Plus checked.

I'm running on a mac, lastest operating system (10.8.3), through Steam. Most recent patches and everything else seems up to date.
Anyone else had a similar issue, or know a solution?

I had this problem on linux, could it be that mac is case-sensitive as well? If it is then look at post #11369 and try to do these steps, see if it works. Also in your Paradox Interactive folder look at the logs see if they have something written in them (especially in the error.log). That will at least give you what the problem is.

Is the Horde invasion a preset factor generated upon starting the game or is it randomly decided when it is time to generate them?
If you mean the size of the hordes, those are random, ranging from a 2% chance of being 100,000 strong to 7% chance of 20,000

Can someone explain what exactly hardocre mode does? I'm debating whether I should use it or not.

Here's what the patch notes say:


Retired the various No X modules and added a new 'Hardcore Mode' module. Default CK2+ now has higher income, higher demesne sizes and faster claims fabrication. Hardcore mode lowers your income, slows expansion and gives you a smaller demesne and unhappier factions among other effects. It is meant to appeal to players who want slower expansion and a more challenging game. This change replaces the default difficulty setting, which no longer has an effect

No I think he/she means to ask wether what kind of odds of having the hordes show up is decided the moment you start the game or as we reach the average date of their arrival. In other words, if you can start using the add-on midway through a campaign and still get the desired effect, to which the answer is yes, you can switch the add on midgame so long as its before the hordes have appeared.

I'm playing on mac too but error.log as well as memory.log is completely empty even after crashing on save. But I can start the game and play it, only saving brings trouble.
