I doubt people will agree with me... But I'll say it anyway. Combat is much too likely to have negative effects on your character... I decided to try the scattered world scenario and started off as a count in a country that has a extra castle. I did a ruler builder with a high martial skill thinking that would be useful. I ended up restarting twice because my count kept dying in the first or second war to claim a new country. Seeing as I had only been playing for a few years there was little point in waiting 10+ years for the successor to come of age so I restarted. And essentially the same thing happened again.
Third time around I finally got kind of lucky and instead of dying my character was only maimed... Then of course he gets ill a few years later and dies almost instantly. Had to wait something like 8 years for the successor to reach ruling age. Thankfully it was his mother that was the regent so I didn't have to worry about her trying to kill me unlike my other game...
Then continuing my bad string of luck... Had been ruling with this character for about 8 years when I get into another war; I outnumbered this guy something like 4 to 1 and he had low morale, yet somehow he managed to outright kill my character...
I gotta say that this is kind of crazy. I agree that battles should be dangerous, but it's not like the count/duke is on the front lines charging headlong into the enemy, or at least I wouldn't think he should be. Also, one would think that if a character has a high martial skill (12+) that they would be even less likely to be hurt or die in a battle.
Just wanted to get this out there as I find it maddening and really makes martial skilled player characters worthless.
Two other small points... I haven't played CK2 for a while and thus I'm new to the retinues. Why does it seem like I need a large kingdom just to get a small group? I have three duchies, 7 demense holdings, and something like another 5 counts under me (not counting all the barons) and my retinue count is only about 400. I believe you need 900 for the smallest troop. What goes into this calculation and what is the best way to max the numbers?
Last point, is there any thoughts on reducing trait flip flopping? Drives me nuts to have someone who is kind all of a sudden flip to cruel, or a craven flip to brave or vice versa. I get it if they don't have the trait and I suppose it should happen sometimes, but a brave person shouldn't all of a sudden become craven so easily..
Anywho I enjoy this mod. Keep up the great work.
