"ck2game.exe stopped working" launching from Steam

I haven't played CKII in awhile and was in the mood for it. I hit play and the launcher came up, but as soon as it did "ck2game.exe stopped working" came up. I went through all of the recommended fixes I could find, but to no avail. I've got Avast AV and excluded the exe. I changed the resolution in the settings. I tried to find a log file, but it's not in my documents, the CKII folder is empty. Anyone know of anything else that could fix it?
Edit: Also did a clean uninstall and that did not work.

Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user.
And then check if you can run the game after that.

OK, go to Documents - CK2 and delete or rename settings.txt and /gfx/ - let the game recreate them at default settings. If taht works, the problem is probably that you've changed monitors since you last played.

If that doesn't help, Try a full clean reinstall:

If this is Steam: move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the CK2 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders. Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify just to make sure it all came down properly.

If this is GamersGate: Move valued save games elsewhere, and uninstall the game. Manually delete the CK2 directories from where GG put them and from MyDocuments. Reinstall the game (this time pick somewhere NOT under the system path c:\program files\ ), download 1.111 patch again and apply it.

I have the exact same problem. The game works when i do a fresh install. But as soon as i apply the latest patch (1.111) it stops working. However i think it started with an earlier patch. I have tried everything suggested on the forum and nothing helps. I have tried with the steam version as well as the GG. Would really appreciate some help at this point.

You have bought both editions of the game, GG and Steam? I ask because Steam will automatically install 1.111, whereas GG installs 1.06 and then you need to manually patch it.

You have tried each one of those 6 items in post #2? If so, you then tried both procedures in post #4?

If so please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

I have managed to find the cause of my problems. It was the antivirus software(Comodo). The strange thing is that it didn't quarantine the file nor did it notify me of any problems when the antivirus was on. However, when I disabled the antivirus and tried to run the game the file was immediately quarantined. I was aware that Comodo could cause problems but I checked the antivirus logs and saw nothing so I assumed it was OK. Apparently not. Thanks anyway.

Did you set both ck2.exe and ck2game.exe to run as teh Admin user?

If so and that didn't help, you pretty much have to have a .NEt problem. You did update it from the Windows Update site? Does Rome's launcher work for you?

The launcher for EU3 does not work either while just going through the regular exe it works fine. Same with Rome.

OK, certainly a .NET issue then. What exact .NEt versions are installed on your PC? You did go to the Windows Update site and allow it to install all .NET patches and updates that it wants to?

I think I have .NET version 4 installed. I went into Windows Update and allowed it to install updates that it wants to.

You need 3.5 installed also, I believe. Try installing that from MS.

I downloaded 3.5 and I click it to install and nothing happens. It asks me if I want to run it, I choose yes and nothing.

What exact .NEt versions are now listed as being installed on your PC?

If you run ck2.exe with the -forcedlc flag, can you at least run the game with your bought DLCs?
