CK2game.exe has stopped working

I get this message whenever I try to open the launcher both through steam and in the game's directory. I have tried opening it as administrator, disabling desktop composition, running it in 640 x 480 resolution, and deleting the application itself and recovering it by verifying the integrity of the game cache but it still won't work. Please help!

Is it just the launcher? If you manually run ck2.exe does that run OK?

Visit the Windows Update site and let it apply all .NET patches and updates it wants to, for all .NET versions.

I've got this same problem; I can manually open ck2.exe and the game loads, but ck2game.exe won't work when launched from Steam or the file folder. It's kinda obnoxious.

Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328
Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.


Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user, and to disable desktop composition.
And then check if you can run the game after that.

The Windows Update did it for me; weird that my other Paradox games worked fine, but whatever. Good luck to anyone else with this problem.
