ck2game.exe has stopped working

Hello,

I have problems starting ck2. Directly after clicking ck2game.exe I get the message "ck2game.exe has stopped working". I have played the game befor some months but now it doesn't start. I have tried to activate the compatibility-mode and the and the desktopenvironment-switch but it doesn't work.

Does anybody know this problem? Im using Windows 7.

ck2game.exe is just the launcher. What if you run ck2.exe instead, the game itself?

try right-clicking on both those files and set them to run as admin, and to disable desktop composition.

I had tried this but it doesn't work. I also tried to reinstall visual c.

I'm not sure by "tried this" whether you mean ck2.exe or setting them to run as admin, or both.

Try using the STeam client option to Verify Game Cache Files. Then try right-clicking on both ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as Admin and to disable desktop composition.

Yes, they are under MyDocuments CK2 /logs/ . If the above does not help, please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Simply restarting the computer does it for more. Not anymore, though. I've tried everything you suggested except the ''log file'' thing. What do I exactly do with them? Delete?

Running ck2.exe works fine, btw. I just wanted to activate my DLC's and a mod, is there another way to this, one not through the launcher?

And I couldn't seem to find the dxdiag.

Post their contents in here please:

please post ... settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then post the first part of that file (from the top down to include "Sound Devices" only) here.

That checksum is wrong, which is probably caused by the mods you've done. If you undo the mods is the checksum now ICBN?

OK good. That means the problem is probably the MS .NET framework, which the launcher uses but the game does not. Visit the Windows Update site and let it apply all .NET updates and patches it wants to.

There are command line ways of activating mods and DLC. IIRC the switch -forcedlc will do all DLCs; I don't use mods so you should ask in User Mods how to do those. But probably the .NET fixes will sort you out.

Did you go to the Windows Update site and let it patch all .NET versions? That has solved this issue in the past.

Or simply use Windows Update in ' all programs'.

Did it patch .NET at all? it's really the only thing I've ever seen cause the Launcher to fail.

By the way, for some reason the -forcedlc command doesn't seem to work for me. I've checked on steam and I'm pretty sure it says that I have both the LoR and the Republics. Target looks like:

How are you determining that the DLCs aren't loaded? The way to tell is once you hit the Single Player choice, you get small round icons down the towards the bottom-left of the screen, one for each of the 4 major DLCs.

BTW I just looked up the mod equivalent, it's ck2 -mod=mod/modname.mod .

So I copied your target and pasted it over mine (even though they were exactly the same) and now the DLCs are working. Before there were no icons and the main menu was offering me to buy DLCs I already had, anyway that's worked out.

I always run my games as admin and I've checked again and my desktop composition is disabled.

Honestly, I'm content if I can get everything working through the commands. This is sort of a temporary computer. So if I wanted to load GoT, it would look like:
"C:\games\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ck2.exe" -forcedlc ck2 -mod=mod/GoT.mod
