I've googled and tried to find a solution but have come up with nothing.

I have a 144hz monitor. I can boot up CK2 just fine, no problem. But when I select "Start" from the in-game menu, suddenly everything goes wrong -- massive stuttering, it's like the game has slowed down by a factor of 100x. I have to wait 60 seconds for the selection panels to 'migrate' into the window so I can click "back" and exit out of it.

It certainly seems like this has something to do with running the game on a high-refresh level monitor, i.e. greater than 60hz.

The obvious solution -- setting my monitor to 60hz through the Nvidia control panel -- does not solve the problem. I've tried changing the refresh rate in the in-game settings -- this not only doesn't work, but it seems unable to 'remember' what I've selected (when I select 60hz and 'save,' and then go back, it shows '50hz'...great.). I've tried tweaking the Settings config file in various ways: 60hz, 120hz, 144hz, and then setting my monitor to match. Nothing works.

Is there a fix for this, or am I just SOL - ?

What if you set the monitor and settings.txt to 60?

You could also try solution #6 from the sticky Known Issues thread above.

I appreciate the suggestions, but neither of those work.

Is this a known issue? There really needs to be a work around. If it's the 120/144 hz monitor that's the cause -- and I can't think of any other possible explanation -- these monitors are only going to become more common, not less.

Quite the opposite actually - we've seen hardware in here running at 120hz unintentionally, and it caused overheating on the GPU involved. Tuning it down to 60 in settings.txt fixed those issues for those people.

Are you saying you set the monitor and the game to 60hz yet it still runs at 120hz? Is there perhaps a setting within the monitor itself (rather than the nVidia driver)?

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and settings.txt files
