There should be a duchy of holstein at some of the later start dates, especially around 1337, they owned large amounts of Denmark at that point :)

You are A_Dane and you don't remember Knud Lavard :)

In 1115, his uncle, King Niels of Denmark, placed him in charge of the Duchy of Schleswig (jarl af Sønderjyll') in order to put an end to the attacks of the Slavic Obotrites. During the next fifteen years, he fulfilled his duty of establishing peace in the border area so well that he was titled Duke of Holstein (Hertug af Holsten) and became a vassal of the Holy Roman Empire.

Lübeck would only be playable as part of the County of Holstein between 1143 and 1206. Before that it was Wendish, after that it was a Free Imperial City and should be a republic in game terms.

In CK1 in 1066 it was held by Obotrite prince Budivoj, who was trying to regain power over Obotrite Confederation after pagan rebellion. He was Christianised, so most likely he'll be playable (like in CK1).

Any of the Rurikevich. Russia shall rise and conquer, in the name of the Tsar! [Insert ominous music]
Screw the Mongols.

(BTW does anyone know if you can become Emperor of the Russias in the game, is it a title?)

Then a Lord or Duke etc. of Leinster (preferably of Kilkenny) :)

Unsure of an Emperor-tier title, however, there is most certainly a King-tier title: the King(dom) of Rus.

Yeah, Grand Prince (king tier) of Rus' is surely in. 'Tsar of Russia' would be incorrect for CK period.

You can start as a count and make it yourself if you own enough territory. I think it does exist though. :)

Nice! But I got to admit that I haven't really understood how the game works despite reading the dev diares and beta AAR's. Ohh well it will clear up when I play the game.

most probably as Premysl I. of Bohemia, I will probably start in 1198 when Bohemia becomes kingdom

and then some count in Occitania would be nice too to play something little harder

With so much choice picking my favourite will be hard! If I was pressed to choose I would pick a duke in pre-invasion England as a starter game. After that I will probably play a count in Southern Italy. I'll get through playing them all, though it may take a while.

I said earlier that de Vermandois aka Carolingians are mine first pick. But now leaning towards the Count/Duke of Holland.
In CK1 the Count of Holland, can easily become Duke. And he is young and have 2 younger brothers. A nice starting point.

trying to unite the dutch culture and slowly expanding into France and the Holy Roman Empire… (if possible switching sides)
