CK2 - Who will you play as first?

I would like be the Hauteville to conquest the Sicily and create a great state in the mediterranean sea.
I will start out as a French count and will serve my king until the end. First one I'll be loyal while learning the ropes 
I want to play as Edgar the Ætheling. I know he'll be a bit young at the start (and may not have any titles), but I assume he'll have a claim to the crown, so, after quickly starting a game as England to give him a title (probably start him off as a Count), I'll get him to build up his power, try and help resist the invasions of William and Harald, then, when I'm ready, I'll remove the House of Godwin from the throne and replace them with the House of Wessex, like it should be.
I was looking at the kingdom map, Croatia looks like a fine place to start so I may just go there, that and their color is pretty
Ethiopia/Nubia area looks tempting. Just for the challenge of it all.
Hope they have an Ark of the Covenant type random event.

I'm going to play as one of King Arthur's knights.
Now, wait a minute. Before you say "But this isn't that sort of game." take a look here. According to the 13th century Roman de Fergus, Fergus of Galloway was one of King Arthur's knights, and since he ruled a duchy's-worth of Scotland during the mid 1100s he's going to be a playable character.

The Duchy of Catalonia under the House of Barcelona, of course! Probably before Hastings.
Sweden. Crusade to Finland and get Finnish vassal and then switch over to him. After that it's rebellion time. Hakka päälle.

I'll give my current CK : DV starter another go in CK2. Starting as Count Algot of Finnveden, and from there gain control of most of the world. Should be a real bummer, considering I was lucky last time when pagans ate all of Russia (there was this huge brown blob of chiefdoms under control of the Tribe of Sames) which made them lands to be taken by the Swedish warlord Knut without that great of a reputation hit. Anyhow, first order of success it to become King of Scandinavia! Deus Vult!
Can a raiding strategy work financially for anyone in this game? Not conquest, just land, defeat field forces, pillage, and move on? My impression is that the war/claim system would seem to make it difficult or impossible - Scandinavian Catholics couldn't raid other Catholics without a claim and declaration of war.

besieging holdings brings some loot. so if you don't press the claim in peace deal maybe you can loot a few times in a row. (but of course at the beginning you still need a claim)
