Hey guys, so I just finished up my first Crusader Kings play through all the way through and I've had an issue with the EU4 converter. While everything else transitioned over very smoothly, one aspect I can't really overlook is the fact that over half of the country names are these three letter codes. For example, by the end of my CK2 game, my Empire of Ireland (I renamed "Hyrule" because I'm a dork) had spread from the UK to Denmark and all of Spain. The import into EU4 has the exact same borders, which is awesome, but the name appears as "Z00." Almost all of Africa is Z60-somethings, and the shattered HRE is many codes as well. I've checked out many other forums, which have solutions for PC, but alas, I am on a Mac and none of their translations to this OS have worked.

If anyone has a fix out there for me, that would be fantastic because CK2 is an amazing game that I have put an unhealthy amount of hours into and I am extremely looking forward to taking my empire into the next game. Thanks!

Someone posted a solution to this earlier on the forums

So what I discovered from that forum is that the problem is simply due to the wrong encoding. So this is what you have to do if you are using Linux (maybe even Mac):
1. Find the file "converted_countries_l_english.yml" in the "localisation" folder (which is all in your converted mod folder)
2. Open it using gedit
3. Go to "File" and press "Save As"
4. Change the "Character Encoding" to "UTF-8" then click "Save"

Boom! You're done, everything should be fixed now. So instead of the mighty empire of Z81 attacking the puny merchant republic of Y08 enraging the theocratic state of X33, it can show it as the mighty empire of Carpathia swallowing up the puny merchant republic of Bosnia enraging the theocratic state of East Francia, for example.
