just got crusader kings 2 and sword of Islam and was playing as one of the Moore states, the Abbadid.
so i wanted to form Andalusia and on my quest to do this i managed to piss off everyone at my court and all my vassals because of my demesne being too high. so i did what i usually did with the Christians and i gave my son a sheikdom, and then i remembered that i had created the emirate of algavre just before and decided to give him that. usually with the christian dutchies, what happens is they become duke of the land but it still stays under you as the liege. however upon doing this,

it created an entirely new state.... and now i have a truce with him. wtf? is that meant to happen with islamic countries or have i triggered some weird islamic rule of law where it makes him succeed. i did not grant him independence btw. i dint see anything about this in the guide to islamic countries either. any insight appreciated.

What helps with figuring out the localized titles is looking at the portrait frames. Silver with a blue gem is a duke. Kings have a golden frame:

You need to be a king to have duke vassals

To get a higher demesne limit increase your centralization laws and marry wives with high stewardship. Try to educate your heir for stewarship too, although at the beginning martial is also a good choice

Open Succession Law dictates that the most powerful son succeeds as ruler, in this case your son you just landed.

There's no worries in this situation, just wait to die and you'll get your land back in no time.

Just keep an eye on him and make sure nothing goes wrong, like a war for example, resulting in him getting annexed.

Edit: However be careful not give your other sons too much land and they will become the heir instead. Happy succeeding!
