CK2 + Stellaris + EUIV fail to launch

Hi

I did a fresh install of CK2 but it completely fails to launch. Not even the mod selection and launch page shows up. The same is true for a fresh install of EUIV and an old install of Stellaris (which ran fine a couple of weeks ago)

AV is Bitdefender
Other Steam games work ok
nvidia driver is up to date

Any suggestions?

Did these games ever work on this computer? Or never?

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV\_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.0 Client Profile\ and run dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe

Also if you have installed RadeonPro, or a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, disable it as it clashes with these games.


Add steam.exe , eu4.exe, stellaris.exe and ck2game.exe to the Exceptions list of your antivirus app.

I should have told you i did run the installation of the redistributed software.

I also added ck2game to the exception list before a reinstall.

Steam works for other games so that app is not quarantined bi the AV

Yes I have all run them successfully in the past.

The Stellaris installation worked previously, but I don't know if the current version of the installation has ever run. The other two are fresh installs but have worked with previous installs.

You ran all 4 of those? Did they seem to run OK, to do anything?

Yes I have all run them successfully in the past.

On this computer? It's not that you've done a Windows reinstall or update since they last worked, anything like that? In other words: what change up update occurred between when one of these games last ran, and one of them first had this problem?


Try this: exit Steam entirely, then run ck2game.exe and stellaris.exe by themselves. When they fail now is there any new error or message visible?

SOLVED!

The ransomware protection of bitdefender AV was the problem. Adding the executables to the exception list there (not in the scanner) did the trick. Why this happened automatically with other steam games I don't know.
