Is there a way to try CK2 without the expansions and patches as it first got released?

I have all dlc and corresponding patches, it would be interesting to see how far the game has come. It could also put some new realeses into perspective.

Anyway I'd really like some way to get it, but rolling back versions don't go to v1.0. Any tips?

Maybe a Dev could release a first build? It could be a show case of the journey the game has gone thorugh, a type of "then and now"?

You can download the demo from Steam, although you can only play either duke Vratislav II of Bohemia, king Boleslaw II of Poland or Matilda of Tuscany.
And I'm not sure but I think it ends in 1100.

Log in into your account on paradoxplaza.com. Go to "Access earlier versions" in "Games" menu. Copy password for desired game (in this case, CK2). Launch Steam, go to Properties, then Betas. Paste password to unlock private betas.

The furthest you can get this way though is the Old Gods patch.

Here's an idea for Paradox. Release CK2 v1.05 (last patch before Sword of Islam) under the name Crusader Kings 2 Classic as a free game on Steam and put a button to buy actual CK2 in the main menu.

Doubt it. I don't think a dev has actually looked through the forums since Snow Crystal left.

Iirc if you select a different ruler after hitting start and before it loads you can actually play as anyone, though you are still limited by the time length.

If you originally bought it with GamersGate then you still get the 1.06 version as the base game through the installer,
though that's already when the first expansion SoI got released.

If you originally bought it with GamersGate then you still get the 1.06 version as the base game, though that's already with the first expansion SoI.

I bought it on release, but can't recall were. Good idea though, I'll dig around gg. Thanks.

Some people prefer the old rebellion system. It was easier to nab territory from a state in a civil war. It destabilized realms more because generally they took longer to resolve. Though for many abovementioned things were frustrating, so they changed it.

Instead of all rebelling lords uniting under a ruler with the temporary "XXXXXX Revolt" title, anyone involved in the rebellion became temporarily independent.

Sometimes it was hard to tell if a civil war was going on or if a realm had just collapsed for some other reason like the last primary title being usurped.
